It’s not a question of being right or of being wrong.
Nor is it always a matter of compromise.

Sometimes, the greatest pleasure can come from the very act of argument,
of conflict,
of uncertainty in who is correct and who isn’t.

Some might write it off as simply
the adrenaline rush after a moment
of panicked argumentation, but I disagree;

I can’t help but savor the charged atmosphere that is
instantly
created between two people
wiping away all refutations and moving their ideas forward;

those brief moments
where every drop of intellect in the mind
is collected together in one fell swoop
and sucked into the steaming machine
that is the brain,
churning information, spitting out comebacks.

To me, there can be nothing so dangerous,
and at the same time as delicious,
--in language--
as an intense,
multifaceted
debate.
