"Take It Home"

we are on the edge
of the old grand canyon
which means we are
on the edge of the earth
and if we could lasso it
into a hefty trash bag
and take it home
we'd be able to challenge
it's true worth

we are cracking open jokes
and searching for the birth marks
we are looking for the fireworks
that come from the manmade sparks
we find ourselves glistened in
the glow of those true american hearts

i am in this empty room
cuddling the wooden corner
with the day break light
peaking through the curtain
this isn't the easiest part
admitting to the new move
but it's something quite different
it's something i'm very certain

we are counting back three days ago
and counting forward 50 more
while we close tight the last 23 years
of memories and open a new door
i am flashing back to my childhood
and wondering what i waited for
wondering what i waited for
what i waited for
