Changes

Then

She spins and twirls,
her white dress splashing against her feet
and a smile plastered on her face.
The boy grabs her hands and dances with her
to the joyous music
while the moon watches down upon them.
His lips meet hers in a chaste kiss
and they whirl,
lost in each other's eyes.
They only see each other,
bathed in a golden light
called love.

Now

Her hair hangs limply,
her dresses are rags,
she's lost her shine.
Her smiles have turned to frowns
and she's always got whiskey in her hand
(trying to drink away her pain)
He comes home from work
late every night
smelling of his affairs.
His hands meet her body
as his anger flows through his body.
(his once blue eyes now so black)
She hates him
-repulsed by his touch-
for ripping away her happiness.

My (oh my) how times have changed.
