They asked me how
a rugby match
could make me cry;
I just smiled
and shrugged a bit.
They can never
quite understand
what this place means
to me. It's not
just some former
obsession with
Lord of the Rings
or merely a
chance to escape
from a life so
familiar
and equally
disheartening –
I left behind
a lot of good,
including new
friendships and love.
I found some of
that here, although
it was not the
ultimate goal.
A desire
to be more than
anything I
had been before,
just to have an
experience
that no one else
could call their own –
I wanted it,
and I found it.
Even sitting
alone by the
harbour, breathing
that distant air –
I cried because
it felt like home.
