Prologue

The silence hung in the air as three men stood on the crest of a hill. The clanging of swords and armor, the hollow desperate cries of dying men and the whooping hollers of those who were victorious had died off as quickly as the tattered and bloody remnants of the soldiers that lay before them. No one dared speak and break the silence that was coiling around them. They could not endure the pain the silence brought down upon them anymore but at the same time they found it oddly comforting. Consuming their every thought and idea turning them hollow, lifeless. With the scene of mangled corpses strewn across the blood soaked battlefield that presented itself in front of them, it was better not to feel, not to see. And so the only three survivors stood unblinking, with only the faintest trace of movement as their chests moved rhythmically up and down, observing all that was theirs. Victory was theirs. Freedom was theirs. And they had no idea what to do with it.
