My Only Night

You feel so alone when under my spell,
But black magic I am not.
I come and go whenever I please,
The fear of my return you cannot escape.

I was a phantom to you during the day,
A mystery in every thought.
During the night a beast in the dark,
A beast that would never let you rest.

Sometimes you could run away,
To hide from the affects of my hand.
But peace would flee in short time to come,
The time of rest forgotten in a cloud.

I have been beaten by many before,
But you have yet to lay a hand on me.
It is this fact that drives you mad,
That you are not as strong as the ones before.

On the third days battles were won,
But the other six were mine.
He told you one night how you had been given a gift,
But you learned of the darkness that comes along.

I made it hard to claim those nights,
To hide from you that the gift worked.
I tried to show you the darkness of days past,
To overshadow the victory today.

I will wait and see what happens today,
Try to convince you that the one night was your only.
But still you wait for the sun to go down,
For the new date to begin.
