Red Sun Rising

Red sun rising from the west,
Strands of light
Twisted and curled,
Ending a year of silence.

I would sit in the chairs outside,
The light from bulbs reaching beyond the walls,
But blocked by windows.
Just enough to read.

In times past
The sun rose lightly,
Rising by my side
Waking morning birds.
Keeping me warm,
Only by night.

It’s not that the sun stopped,
Stuck in the western sea.
It disappeared
It was replaced
It was missed.

A sun rose in the east,
Bringing light,
No warmth.

It’s been cold these afternoons
While standing with my face away
From the mountain of gold.
Growing tired
Of watching while Sol sank.

Red rays.
They didn’t go away,
I didn’t want them too.
I never gave up on them,
But they were mere glimpses,
Memories.

Curls
That wrap around my face.
Two diamonds
That hold my eyes.
You don’t forget the past.
That is time lost to Sol,
And kept by the soul.

And like the storm before the calm,
Sky cleared from the clouds.

It would be hours before morning.
I watched for the light,
It was forming in the east.
I felt familiar warmth upon my back.

Turning to see red light begin to crest the sea.
