Save The Whales

Questions define mankind,
Even if answers we never receive.
We wonder what will happen to this land,
About our environment and the vast sky.
We empty wallets to save spotted owls,
And tie ourselves to trees with chains of steel.
If you kill a bug you can be sued,
Shooting a crow will get your ten years.
Then there are the whales in the sea,
The giants that we think must be saved.
The number of endangered species grows by the hour,
Yesterday another bird added to the list.
Once free it lives now in a guarded cage,
Free from the wild and locked in a zoo’s prison.
If the animals have children the future is bright,
The species will thrive once again.
But another animal joins the list today,
The most endangered of all.
These animals made their own cages,
And they will never fit in the zoos.
When they have children they kill them,
Murdered by animals with no heart.
This species is doomed,
Animals killing each other over shadows.
We call out to save the whales,
But we forgot the most endangered species,
Man.
