The Great Divide

Once upon a lifetime,
In a time not too long ago.
A wall was built by many hands,
Of its construction, no one would know.

The wall was built to separate,
To keep the others out.
But it also kept its occupant in,
Knowing nothing of what the wall was about.

He had not even seen it,
And it was this way for many years.
Locked within the mighty wall,
Alone with nothing but his tears.

Then one day he ventured,
Felt the wall with his hand.
It was hard and cold to the touch,
But this is what the builders had planned.

He did not want the wall,
But he paid for every foot.
No one would ever come visit him,
Behind the wall of solitude, he alone was put.

The yellow light shines on the wall,
He wishes to see it every day.
But in the walls complete shadow,
Is where he is forced to stay.
