Epilogue

Rain splattered the ground, washing away the blood but not the truth. People had died here, victims of meaningless slaughter. Their murderer? The king of the new era. Though he was absent from the event, his men were carrying out their orders. Unknown to them, justice would come sooner than they knew. Lightning flashed, illuminating the night, making him visible on the hillside. The squad of twenty saw him, and began murmuring amongst themselves. He needn’t ask questions though; the blood still ran from the death squads swords, proclaiming their guilt. The squad continued to murmur, questioning the identity of the sword man before them.

“Was that who I thought it was?” one asked, after the night had darkened again.

“It has to be.” Another answered.

“What’s he want?” asked another.

“Don’t you know? The legend said the soul slayer pursues justice.”

“So where’d he go?” asked a young soldier.

“I’m right here.” The slayer said.

The shrieks of terror turned into ones of pain in the blackness of night. The captain shouted orders, but the only responses were more screams. Soon after, it stopped, silence was all that followed. The divine had judged them, and sent their executioner to carry out their punishment, death.
