Liz’s POV

Home. I had to go back or I’d know what would happen. Mom would ask where I was and he would make something up. That’s what I hate about him. He always gets his way. When I got home, it was 5:00. Thank god, I hadn’t been out for long or mom would’ve came home. When I walked in Jeff was standing right there in front of me.

“Where were you young lady?” Jeff questioned me.

“None of your business.” I replied.

“None of my business!” Jeff yelled as he grabbed the flowerpot from the table.

He threw it on the floor.

“It’s all of my business. No go to your room.” Jeff said.

“Fine.” I said.

I ran upstairs and ran to my room. I locked the door and jumped on my bed. Tears ran down from my face. Then all of sudden I heard banging on my door.

“Who is it?” I asked.

“Oh, hunny it’s me.” mom said.

Oh crap. Mom. She could not see me like this; I grabbed a shirt from my bed and wiped the tears. I looked in the mirror and noticed smudged eyeliner. Crap, she will notice that.

“Are you alright in there?” she asked me.

“I’m fine. I’m umm just changing my shirt.” I said.

I grabbed a sweater and put it on. I then grabbed some make-up and covered up the make up quickly. When I had finished I opened the door.

“Sorry mom.” I said.

“Oh, darling it’s alright.” mom said.

“So. How was work?” I asked her.

“Fine, how was school?” she asked.

“Great.” I said.

When she left, I saw Jeff standing behind her.

“We’ll keep that call our secret.” Jeff whispered.

“Oh-kay.” I said.

“Just don’t ever be late to class.” Jeff said.

“Okay.” I said.

As soon as he left, I closed the door. The next day I woke up and got dressed. I knocked on Rick’s room to wake him up.

“Wake up.” I said.

I heard no reply. I opened his door and found him already dressed sitting on his bed.

“What time did you wake up?” I asked him.

“An hour ago.” Rick replied.

“Why so early?” I asked.

“I didn’t want you to be late to class again.” Rick replied.

“Oh thanks, I said.”

There is still 40 minutes left. Just enough time for me to eat some breakfast. I walked down the steps. Once I got to the kitchen, I opened the cabinet door. I grabbed some cereal and put it on the counter. I noticed mom sitting down at the kitchen table.

“Good morning mom.” I said.

“Good morning darling.” she replied.

I grabbed a bowl and placed it next to the cereal. I grabbed some milk from the fridge and poured it into the bowl. I put it back in the fridge and walked back over to where the cereal was. I grabbed the box and dumped some cereal in the bowl. I put the cereal back in the cabinet and grabbed a spoon. I sat down in a seat, and began to eat the cereal. After a couple of minutes, I had finished. I put it in the sink and checked the time. I still had 20 more minutes.

“Rick, ready to go?” I asked.

“Yeah.” Rick replied.

Rick ran down the steps.

“I’m ready.” Rick said.

“Cool. Let’s go.” I said.

“Have a great day.” Jeff said.

“I’ll try to.” I said.

I left the house with Rick and began walking to school. Once I got to Rick’s school, I dropped him off there. I walked to my school and got to class just on time.

“You are early today.” Mr. Brooks said.

“Yes, I am.” I replied.

After class was finished, I walked to Rick’s school. I called Jeff and told him I’d pick Rick up today. I was feeling pretty good. Once I got to Rick’s school, I waited outside for him. Once he got out, I walked over to him.

“Where’s Jeff?” Rick asked.

“I told him I’d pick you up today.” I replied.

“Cool. So how was your day?” Rick asked me.

“Pretty good. How was yours?” I asked him.

“Awesome. I have a girlfriend.” Rick said.

“Really, what’s her name?” I asked him.

“Autumn.” Rick replied.

“That’s a pretty name.” I said.

“Yeah, just like her.” Rick said.

“Aww that’s sweet. Why don’t you invite her over for dinner?” I asked.

“You know how dad- Jeff is.” Rick said.

I hate when Rick calls that person our dad. He is not our dad. Our dad died in a fire. I will never forget him.

“Yeah, that’s true.” I said.

“But that’s a risk I’m willing to take.” Rick said.

“Really, why?” I questioned him.

“Cause, she said she wanted to get to know you.” Rick replied.

“Really, umm why?” I asked him.

“I’ve told her about you. She said you seem pretty cool. And she wants to get to know you.” Rick said.

“Oh, cool. I guess that will be cool.” I said.

“I hope mom says yes.” Rick said.

“I’ll talk to her for you.” I said.

“Thanks so much.” Rick said.

“No problem.” I replied.

So Autumn wants to get to know me. Cool, I guess. Now, all I have to do is to get mom to say yes.
