I wander barefoot on the pavement,
in the pitch black with my arms outstretched,
fingers feeling the still air,
feet dragging with each step,
like a child just getting used to its legs.
My eyes are open,
yet I see what I would if they were closed,
random patterns of colored light streaking across a black background.
The silence and darkness
make my heart beat in my ears,
and fill me with a vulnerability,
an unusual awareness of my balance,
the millions of tiny molecules,
surrounding every part of my body,
and the gravity,
that keeps my feet planted on the ground.
