Prologue

Once upon a time there lived a girl and her name was Cinderella. She ended up falling deeply in love with prince charming and lived happily ever after. It is too bad fairytales should be left for gullible, simple-minded children. Prince charming does not exist and happily ever afters are only found in children books. I mean come on Cinderella had it easy: step mom and two stepsisters, but in the end she won prince charming and bing bang boom she was happy! Snow White is an as if story that should have never been written. I mean dwarfs really? She gets the man too and don't even get my started on Sleeping Beauty!

In my younger more, imprudent years, I believed that everyone should a fairytale ending and that one day I would find my prince charming and live happily ever after. Ha! Let me remind you that those were my younger days, I didn’t know any better, and life-life is no fairytale.

Now, many people may ask why they sudden hate and hostility toward fairytales. Well to start with, my father died when I was only five years old and to a five year old that ruined all chances of happy ever after. And then, my love life proved my five year old theory as well. When all the man in your life seem to screw you over in one way or another, and I remember clearly disliking my father for abandoning me at such a young and fragile age.

My apologies for ranting, I get a bit angered when I hear about happily ever after and prince charming. The world, as we know it, has come to make believe that little girls will have a fairytale life like in the movies. Unfortunate that is completely miss guiding.

I am not against love or hate it, if that is what you are thinking then you are wrong. I just don't like the false idea the media puts out of prince charming and happily ever after that all, really. Might I add, compared to my life Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and all those other princess had it pretty damn easy!

And let me remind you this is not a fairytale, not at any means.

Chapter One

“Maybe you started to compare to someone not there
Maybe you want it, maybe you need it
Maybe it's all you're running from
Perfection will not come,”

It was a rather hot afternoon day and even an air condition house felt unbearable. The sun heated the suburbs of Georgia, a small town called Mayville.

Audie Street was full of townspeople and tourist who did not seem to mind the particularly hot day. There was not one spot untouched by a person.

Sitting inside of Ella’s clothes store, I watched everyone from people in the store and to those outside in the intense heat.

My best friend Hailey was currently trying on every article of clothing Ella had in her shop. Some of the outfits were sensational while others were just ridicules, but I wasn’t really paying attention. I was busy observing all the people around us.

A middle-aged woman walked passed the store with beads of sweat dripping from her forehead. She would wipe it off and as fast as it disappeared it would reappear.

A group of teenage girls entered Ella’s gossiping about how some girl backstabbed them and about the drama of high school. The girls were wearing cloth if you will. The cloth was not even enough to be called clothes. They all had short jean skirts on with a halter, tank top, or tube top that showed too much skin for my own liking. I was glad to have finished high school.

A few more people passed the store with less interest as the others before them. That was until a group of guys, from Hails and I University, were crossing Washington Street onto Audie Street.

Dominic led the group; he wore a bright pink polo with brown cargo pants and converses. A few tattoos were visible on his arms and a black arm band with a pink Nike sign stuck out on his tan arms. His black hair fell into his eyes showing he had a strong jaw and nice face features. He stood tall from the distance between us and in a rough boyish way was very handsome. Following him were his brother Brayden, Conner, Jay, and Theodore. Brayden and Dominic were identical twins and it was often hard to separate the two of them.

Brayden had the same black hair, but it was shorter than Dominic. He had the same facial structures and features as his twin. The only thing that separated the two was their style, but still some people (most people) could not tell the difference between them. While Dominic wore whatever he felt, Brayden had a more preppy side to him. He wore a white polo, which showed off his tan and muscular arms, with a pair of designer jeans.

Connor, who was more friends with Brayden then Dom, wore a blue polo and was nicely built, but not as nice as the twins, with darker designer jeans. He has short blonde hair, blue eyes, and nice facial features with a small goatee.

Jay, Dominic’s main man, had a similar style and attitude to Dom. He wore a black band tee, a pair of black cargo pants, and vans. He had long dark brown hair that went passed his ears. Jay had tattoos on his arms and one that stood visible on his ankle. He was the biggest built of them all, full of muscle.

Theodore, the neutral friend to all, was the sporty and laid back one of the pack. He sported a white Nike shirt, and a black pair of basketball shorts. He had shaggy blonde hair and had that surfer look, if you will.

The teenagers, who entered the store not long ago, giggled at the sight of the group of attractive guys in front of them. Though the guys seemed to pay no attention toward the teenagers, but I found Dominic looking me straight in the eyes with a small smirk on his lips.

I must have been staring and forgot I was doing so since he seemed to be taking in my appearance like I did his and did a full look over.

My chocolate colored hair hung in the messy bun with my bangs pinned up in the form of a bump on the top of my head. I wore a bright purple silk-like tank top and an white plain tank under it with a simple pair of kaki shorts and flip flops. From sitting down my height was unreadable and probably not guessable. My bright blue eyes stared back at him as he looked down, stop at my chest, and then looked me in the eyes again with that same smirk. Typical.

The guys crossed the path of a few people and before I knew Dominic was standing in front of Ella’s with that smirk on his face. Hailey took that moment to grab my arm jerking me away from my seat and my attention from Dom.

“I’m done,” she said smiling as she paid for her clothes and ended up with five bags.

We left Ella’s and the infamous boys were gone from sight. The five ruled Harbor University. Everyone at our University had money and if you didn’t everyone knew it. There were a few scholarship students in our school, seven to be exact. Harbor gave scholarship every once in a while most were unfit students who normally left due to the hard, cruel, snobby, reality of our school. Hail and I stood out in Harbor. We both had some money; Hail more than I. We were the simple kind-of students who never harshed the scholar students. We never found the need, but always felt bad when another one went packing.

In our small crowded town, it was nearly impossible to find someone unless they were right under your nose, literally. The summers showed this theory very well. I lost Hailey and after about an hour of endless searching; I finally reunited myself with Hailey.

“Ave, you seem out of it?” Hailey asked me as she put on her sun glasses and started the car.

“I-, oh it’s nothing Hail,” I said as my eyes catch the sight of Brayden who smiled at me.

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah," I nodded.

We arrived at our condo in less than twenty minutes and that’s only because Hail is one crazy ass driver. I don’t know why I just don’t take over the wheel and drive. One day.

After helping Hail put away her new clothes, I pulled out my laptop and started my English project which was unfortunately was to write a Cinderella-like, Disney, Happily ever after, prince charming story for a group of children at our town library. Now I loved doing English projects, but I hated this one.

I wasn’t someone who enjoyed happily ever after or prince charming. My past proved to be the reason I never liked fairytales. I would rather much write about how misguiding and leading it is to our youth. Now don’t get me wrong, they were good ideas for simple-minded children. I was never one of those children.

I started my story like every other fairytale. Once upon a time….

Within a few hours my story was nearly complete and I was jumping with joy to be done with it. My fairytale, if you will, dealt with a simple, average girl, the average basis to all fairtales, who found a talking frog one day and by the end of the story the frog would turn into a prince, by a evil witch, but only by true loves first kiss would make him into a prince again, and they would live happily ever after. Yeah! Not! Too bad real life couldn’t be like that.

“Ave, you wanna go out tonight?” Hailey asked from the hallway.

“Nah, I’m going to finish English and I got work early in the morning.”

“Kay, I’ll be back later,” Hail said grabbing her keys and disappearing from sight.

A few hours had gone by since Hailey had left and left me with the condo to myself for once. Hail always tend to have people over and was a rather outgoing girl who needed more attention than one might think. She loved to be the center of attention and craved it. Personally, I thought it was a bit unhealth, but I never said anything.

Carrying my latest romance novel, I walked to the back yard of our condo, which originally belonged to Hailey’s dad until he died, and sat down on a lounge chair. Now just because I dont believe in fairytales doesn’t mean I’m not a sucked for a hardcore romance novel. Trust me I am!

The warm summer warm air filled the atmosphere and the smell of chlorine filled my nose. After about three chapters in, I put the book down and sighed.

Georgia was a lovely place and it was even nicer not having to live within the city. I was about an hour away from any big place and Florida itself, but I could deal with that rather than the crazy people and loud noise. I originally grew up in New Jersey in the city and chaos. Moving down to Georgia was a bit of a change, but none the less it was all worth it.

I moved to the cushioned beach bed and thought about my day and running into the guys, their strange behaviors, and soon after I fell into a deep slumber.

Morning

Morning came too early.

The sun peered over the condo and to the exact spot I was at. The warm Georgia rays made the water on the pool sparkle and twinkle in the light and the town-it looked beautiful. You could tell it as going to be a rather hot day just by the morning rays.

Yawning, I opened my eyes only to close them again, finally opening them again, and letting them readjusting to brightness of the new day. I got up from the beach bed and headed inside to get ready for an early day of work.

I found Hail passed out on the couch, covered her with a light blanket, and kissed her forehead before heading into the bathroom for a shower. After getting into the shower, I got prepared for work and got ready to leave. Walking passed the living room, I smiled at Hail as I left.

Le café was the coffee shop that I worked at on the weekends. Every weekend I opened the shop and got it ready for the day ahead. I arrived at the shop at eight sharp. And before I knew it, it was ten o’clock and the shop was ready to be opened.

Jay’s family owned Le Café. They bought it back a few years ago when it was nothing and turned it into a vast shop. It was popular for student from Harbor and business people.

The petite coffee shop was soon filled with talkative college students and rushing business people. Rush sweep over the shop and everyone was busy. The students were calm on the lovely Saturday, while any business person who had to work was awful to deal with.

By two o’clock the rush was over and the shop was back to its peaceful self. By four o’clock the shop was dead and my shift was over. I clocked out and the warmth of the sun overtook me.

It was still a beautiful day for it being mid day. The sun was high in the sky and the heat filled every block. A light breeze swept over the town from the ocean not far away. The waves crashed down onto the rocks and the bird’s heavily chirped and sang. It was really a lovely day; there was no denying it.

I made my way to our condo humming as I bobbed my head to music and sang the current song that was playing on my ipod.

“And girl they wanna have fun, oh girl just wanna have fun ohhh,” I sang to lightly as I continued to walk.

If I would have been paying attention, I would have known of the smiling boy behind me. Who was getting a full entertainment show. By the time I reached the condo, I finally took notice of the smiling boy behind me.

Theodore stood there with a silly grin on his face. He blonde hair fell into in deep green eyes making him seem even more gook-looking if that was possible.

"Yes?" I asked tilting my head to side.

"Avery," he started off simply, "I wanted to know if Hailey was home?" He asked with that silly grin again.

That’s when I remember, Theodore had a simple crush on Hailey and I found it extremely cute. Nodding, I opened the door of our condo to let Theodore in.

"Nice place," he said walking around as he inspected the area.

"Thanks, its Hail's," I said kicking off my shoes and pointed to the backyard.

"She'll be out there. She's probably tanning."

Theodore grinned and said thanks as he made his way to the backdoor and onto the backyard where Hailey was. Hail always had guys in or around the condo. She was pretty petite girl long blonde hair, blue eyes, and stood at only 5'4''. She was skinny, but had some curves on her small body and she had long legs that would make any guy stop and stare. I often found myself jealous of my best friend. She always got the perfect guys and the perfect relationship.

She believed in love at first sight and that live was unexpected so take chances. Though it was much easier said than done. At times we were complete opposite and I wondered how a friendship like ours worked; the idealist and the realist.
