A/N: What can I say? Poetry unit. Wanted to do something different. I was originally going to write “unpoem” as a piece of very poetic prose, but I decided on this instead (not just because it’s very hard to write especially poetic prose on command without sounding super-cliché). Feedback feedback feedback! (And keep in mind that this was submitted as part of a poetry collection.)

Unpoem

It’s far too much trouble to sort out my thoughts or to organize my mind to pull idea from idea and let the strands of inspiration hang out to dry it takes too long I want it now I don’t want to draw breath and I certainly don’t want to tell anyone else to because they’d have an advantage that would be too easy and who says to be a poem it needs line breaks who says the English language needs commas maybe this is just how I talk whoever thinks that they can tell me how to speak my own words is dead wrong because it’s my language and it’s like a sister and it moves obligingly into what I want to say I can express myself however I want I can ramble or fill a canvass with vibrant colors of words and I will sit there at my desk in the dark for however long it takes until I can find the right words for what I want to say and when I find them I’ll say it I’ll sing I’ll shout I’ll run at top speed down long meandering roads of language and jump up and down in sheer joy because I’ve found my words and what I was trying to say is right there on the paper in front of me instead of burning somewhere inside my chest regardless of how big or little how unimportant or earthshaking it is because I’ve written it down because I’ve found my words.
