Chapter 14
He's Back
“Kent…” Ray was standing, looking up at him. He was here. Right in front of her, and this wasn’t a dream. It couldn’t be.
“Hey, Juju.” He smiled. Ray just stared at him. She remembered she needed to breathe in order to live, and exhaled. Her breath shook as it came out. “Jules?” he asked. Nothing. He reached out and touched her cheek gingerly. The warmth of his hand instantly heated up her cold skin. She suddenly remembered so many memories. Their first kiss, the day when she started talking again, and the first time he told her he loved her. “I’ve missed you, Ray.”
“I-I-I…I-” she had forgotten her own language. Her vision started to blur. There was a lump in her throat, and it stung as she was trying to keep it down. The tears started rolling down her face. No sound came out of her, only the tears flowing silently. They were a mixture of hate and love.
Kent reached out and grabbed her wrist. The next thing she knew she was in his warm embrace. At first, she struggled, trying to pull away. She gave up and sobbed into his chest. His scent was exactly the way she remembered it.
“I’m so sorry, Ray. I can’t tell you that enough. I’m so sorry for what I did to you.” He cooed. Ray clutched to him. She didn’t want him to leave her again. “Come on, Ray, let’s go sit down.” He grabbed her hand, and she grabbed it back as she followed him to a bench. They sat down and Kent placed Ray’s head into his chest. He tenderly rubbed her back like he used to when she had a nightmare.
“You don’t have to talk to me if you don’t want to. I’ll do the talking. Is that okay with you?” he asked, still rubbing her back. He looked down at her. She nodded, the tears still slowly coming out.
“Alright. I can’t even tell you how much I want to go back and make things right. I kept trying to find other girls like you, but none of them even come close to what you are.” He grabbed Ray by the shoulders and looked into her icy blue eyes that shimmered now that they had water in them. “I’ve changed, Ray, you have to believe me. I love you. I told you that more than once, right? Remember, now and forever-”
“Always and forever.” Ray finished in a quiet voice. She remembered. “How can I trust you?” she asked, looking into his cloudy gray eyes. Her heart was pounding. Her emotions were so fucked up right now. “How do I know that you won’t do what you did before?”
Kent sighed. “I can’t force you to believe me, or even trust me for that matter. But I just want you to know I have changed, and I will do anything to make it right. I really do miss you, Ray.” He brushed a strand of Ray’s hair out of her face. “I miss your smile, your laugh, everything.”
“I don’t want to trust you…” she cried.
“You don’t have to. You know, you’re so beautiful when you cry.” He stared into her eyes, wiping away a tear. Their eyes locked. His face inched closer to hers. He waited for her to push him away, to slap him, to yell at him. Instead, she stared into his cloudy, gray eyes. Since she showed no sign of moving, he slowly closed the gap between their mouths.
Ray’s breath got caught inside her chest. His soft pink lips were touching hers, nibbling them gently. She felt a spark go through her, she felt alive again. Kent was back. She kissed him with years of longing to do so. Kent pulled her closer to him. He had her again. She cupped his face in her hand, biting his lower lip. She started crying unintentionally. She pulled away, smiling, truly smiling at him. Kent smiled too.
“I’m back.” He said. She hugged him, never wanting him to leave again. He’s back.

Brandt had seen the whole thing. Well, the part from where they sat down on the bench to present. They were hugging now. He clenched his fists. He got this sudden rush of anger through out him. He wanted to go over to that guy, Kent, and beat him to a bloody pulp. Better yet, he would go drink. Why the hell was Ray kissing a guy? And better yet, why was it with a guy who caused her so much pain?

“I haven’t been out with anyone since you left me.” Ray said, about five minutes later. She was in Kent’s arms, leaning her head up against his shoulder. She missed times like this. Kent was still scratching her back.
“Really? Why?” he asked, looking out into the distance.
She smiled. “Because, I just had this feeling that I wouldn’t find another guy like you, and maybe, just maybe, you would come back.”
He looked at her, raising an eyebrow. “You actually thought about me coming back?”
“You don’t have to sound so shocked about it. I’m not going to lie to you, yeah I thought about you coming back.” She grinned, like it was something that was funny.
“Oh.” He went quiet for a while. “So, are you going to tell me why you are dressed up like a boy? The last time I saw you, your hair was longer than this.” He picked up a handful of hair, and ran his hand through it like he used to. This time though, he didn’t have to extend his arm to get to the end. He just had to move his wrist.
“We didn’t want to be separated.” She replied.
“And by ‘we’ you mean you and your brothers…” Kent finished for her. She nodded, snuggling with his arm. “I ran into one earlier.” He could hear Ray gasp, and feel her tense up. “Don’t worry, it was Sky. He just said to leave you the fuck alone.” He felt her relax. “Do you want me to leave you alone?”
She shook her head. “No, that’s the last thing I want.”
“M’kay, good. Don’t worry, I’ll keep it a secret okay? You can trust me.” Kent said, hugging her. She nodded, and hugged him tighter. “Listen, I have to go. But I promise you I’ll be back tomorrow, okay?” He explained.
Ray pulled away from him and looked him in the eye. “Where are you going?” He just came back into her life, and she didn’t want him to leave her again. Kent noticed the cute, worried look on her face.
“Nowhere, close by, but I have something to do over there, but I swear to you that I will be back tomorrow, alright?” he asked, cupping her face in his hand. She leaned into his hand.
“Oh, okay. Is that why you were gone all week?” she asked. He nodded. “Do you have to go now?” He nodded again. She sighed deeply. “Okay, but this is going to be hard to explain to my brothers.”
“You don’t have to tell them. We can keep it secret for now.” Kent suggested. “But I will call you tomorrow. I’ll get your room number from the office. And remember, I love you, now and forever.”
“Always and forever.” Ray finished. Kent pulled her face into his, and kissed her sweetly. He hugged her, gave her one more quick kiss, and then stood up.
“I’ll see you later. I love you.” He made his way inside, and then disappeared.
“I love you too… Bye…” she whispered.
O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.o.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O.O
Brandt chugged down his fourth drink. He didn’t even know what it was, he just asked the bartender for something with shitloads of liquor.
“Brandt, buddy? You should stop drinking so much. Those things are freakin’ strong.” Travis advised, watching Brandt ask for another one. They were downstairs, sitting in a booth that was in a circle. The band had finished up, and now the DJ took over, and was playing other songs.
“Yeah, I would take Travis’s advice.” Bryson said. He sat down next to Spencer. Everyone was sitting around in the huge booth, including the older third years.
“Fuck you, if I want to drink then I’m gonna drink!” Brandt spat out. He couldn’t believe it! Why was Ray making out with that bastard? That guy had to be Kent.
“Where’s Ray?” Christian asked, looking around, drink in hand. He and Adam have been hitting up drinks since they first got there, and even though they had already drunk a lot so far, they were masters at holding their liquor down.
“He was outside with-” Brandt stopped himself. Everyone looked at him waiting for an answer. He wanted to tell them that Ray was outside on the balcony making out with Kent, but he just had this huge feeling in his chest that he wasn’t supposed to let anyone else know that.
“Well?” Brandon asked, arms crossed. Brandt stayed quiet.
Luckily, Ray walked up to the booth just in time. “Ray-Ray! Where were you? We missed you!!” The twins shouted out.
Ray smiled prettily, “I was outside getting some fresh air.”
Yeah, you were getting something, but it wasn’t air, Brandt thought to himself.
“Well, sit down, Ray!” Julie cheered. “We were waiting for you to come so we can start playing some drinking games!”
Ray looked around. Everyone there she knew drank, except for the Holliday twins. She took a seat next to Brandt who was at the end.
“Yeah, ve defided to wait fo you.” Stephanie slurred. She was already pretty fucked up. She really didn’t need to be drinking anymore.
“Steph, you are not drinking anymore tonight.” Mina ordered. “You better savor that drink because it’s your last one for tonight.”
Stephanie looked at Mina, nodded, looked at her drink in her hand, and then instead of savoring it like she was supposed to, she chugged it.
“Damn, Stephanie, you can really put it away.” Sky watched wide eyed. Sky himself wasn’t that much of a drinker, but he still drank to have fun.
“Yeah, then she puts it all out the next morning. It’s quite gross, actually.” Julie sighed.
“At least she’s not putting it all out on us,” said Adam. Everyone nodded in agreement.
“Well, come on! I’m ready to start drinking!” Travis exclaimed, pounding the table with his fist. “What game shall we start first?”
“How about Rapid Fire?” Cheri suggested. All heads turned her way.
“What?” Brandon asked.
“You know,” she began. “When you have to pick a category, and one person is going through the alphabet, and another is saying a word from the category that starts with the letter that the other person is calling out.” She explained. “If they miss up, or hesitate, they have to take a drink of whatever.”
Sky looked at her. “You drink?”
Sabine laughed out loud. “Does she drink? Hell yeah! This girl can freakin’ drink more than any other person I know! And she doesn’t get any hangovers! The closest thing to a hangover that she knows about is when I get them!”
“Damn girl, there is just more and more to be learned about you!” Brandon whistled. Cheri smiled.
“And that’s why I like her so much.” Sky turned to her and gave her a sweet kiss. Everyone awed. They were the cutest couple!
“So are we going to start or what?” Christian exclaimed, slamming his empty glass on the table.
“Hell to the yeah!” Everyone yelled.
They drank. And when I say drank, I mean they were pretty much shit faced by now. Everyone had played Cheri’s “rapid fire” and that got them tipsy. They played the statement game, where someone says something like, “I never had sex before noon”, and if you have done it, you drink. If you haven’t, you don’t. That game got them
drunk. They played some other game that Travis made up off the top of his head, and by now they were shit faced. It was already one thirty in the morning, and there were still shit loads of people at the party.
“Dudes! Dudes, let’s play truth… Truth or dare.” Brandon slurred out. They were sitting on the floor, in a circle. They were all drinking water now, so they wouldn’t vomit all over anything.
“Yay! I love truth or dare!” Ray cheered, happy as can be. “Good idea nii-chan!”
Sabine laughed maniacally. “Haha, that’s a funny word!” She was laughing so hard she started to hiccup.
“I’ll start the question!” Adam offered. Everyone quieted down, and Adam turned to Spencer. “Okay dude, truth or dare?”
“Fuck the truth! I wanna dare!” He grinned. Even Spencer was shit faced too.
“Uh oh!” the twins gasped. They were supporting each other by leaning against one another.
“Okay… I dare you to make out with Bryson, right here, right now!” he dared.
“Do it!” The group chanted.
Spencer shrugged, looked at Bryson, and attacked his face. No joke. Attacked. He pinned Bryson down, and everyone watched in awe. This was a side of Spencer that none of them have ever seen before, and it was kind of cool. You could just tell Bryson was enjoying it as he kissed back.
“Hey… Hey!” Travis and Brandt yelled. Spencer pulled away from Bryson, out of breath. “You two need to,” Brandt began standing up, “Get a room!” Travis finished. Everyone nodded.
They both looked around at everyone for a second. Then they got up and ran out. “See you guys tomorrow!” They yelled as they ran out the door together. “Tell Karly it was an awesome party!”
“Grooooss!” Ray yelled. “Now they are going back to their room to have sweaty, dirty, man sex all night!” Brandt sat back down, laughing.
“And we are going to have to listen to every detail tomorrow!” Sky groaned. Cheri giggled. She was sitting in Sky’s lap now.
“Okay, moving on!” Mina yelled. Stephanie was passed out in the booth they were sitting at earlier, and she just got back from making sure she hadn’t got raped or anything. “I’ll ask next then!” she exclaimed. “Okay, Brandon, truth or dare?”
Brandon looked deep in thought as if it were the hardest question in the world. “Um, I don’t feel like doing anything stupid, so I’ll have to pick truth.”
“Aw, come on, bro! You’re so lame!” Christian yelled, pointing at him.
“I would have picked dare if I were you!” Julie laughed.
Brandon sighed. “Yeah, but we aren’t all as stupid as you are, Julie. Now go ahead and ask me Mina.”
“Okay, uh… Have you ever jacked off to a guy before?” she asked, raising an eyebrow. Everyone leaned in the circle, waiting for the answer.
Brandon looked around nervously. “Y-yes…” he sighed. The poor guy was too shit faced to think about the fact that he didn’t have to tell the truth and they wouldn’t have known.
“Argh! Dude, you are gross!” Devan yelled. He was making fake vomiting noises into his brother’s lap.
“And you say you’re not gay?” Travis asked hopefully. Brandon punched him in his balls.
“No, I’m not, so don’t go getting your hopes up too high. Got that?” he intimidated. Travis crouched over, groaning, and nodded okay. The game was interrupted by the bright lights turning on, and the music lowering. The twins shielded their eyes with the arms, and hissed loudly.
“Hate to break it to you guys, but the party is officially over.” It was Karly’s voice over the speaker. “Thank you all for coming, and thank you for all the presents. I hope you guys had as much fun as I had! Get home safe, and I’ll see you guys later! Thank you! And don’t forget to take all your things home! Good night!” The people downstairs groaned, and complained for it being over already, including the group consisting of Ray and the others.
“Damn it!” Sabine cussed.
“No shit! I wanted to stay longer!” The twins complained.
“Well you guys had better get going if you want to catch the ferry. It’s already two o’clock.” Adam said, looking at his watch.
“Okay, Mina and I will go wake up Stephanie, see you tomorrow guys!” Julie yelled, walking off with Mina.
“We have to stay late so we can help Karly clean up a little.” Adam informed. Christian groaned. “Aw, come on Chris, we’ll just go upstairs and help clean the bar and then we can get the fuck out of here.”
“True, okay, well good night, Ray.” He said, hugging his drunk little sister. “Make sure he gets back to the room okay.” He ordered everyone around her. All the guys nodded.
“Bye, nii-chan.” She waved, drowsily.
“Bye bro!” Brandon and Sky yelled as they made their way toward the exit. They all barely made it on the ferry. Everyone else on there just stared down Ray’s little group.
“That was so much fun! I swear I am so drunk right now!” Evan yelled once they were on the ferry.
“Yup! Yet I feel like I could crash right away once I hit the bed.” Devan agreed.
“Are we going to go to bed right when we get home, Shrimp?” Travis asked Brandon.
“Yeah, as long as you don’t rape me or anything while I’m asleep.” He glared.
“Don’t worry, I’ll make sure I won’t wake you up while I’m doing it,” Travis joked. Brandon punched him playfully in the arm.
“Well I would rather be raped than have to hear Spencer and Bryson do it all night long.” Evan said.
“You are lucky compared to us, Brandon. We have the room right next to those two.” Devan shuddered at the thought. So did everyone else.
“That’s a mental image I really didn’t want to have in my head.” Brandt said, rubbing his temples. “Hey, Ray? Where’s Sky?” he asked, looking around for the chocolate color haired teen.
“I dunno. Sabine where’s Sky?” she asked, turning to Sabine.
“They’re over at the other end of the ferry making out.” She yawned as she pointed over her shoulder. “I think he is going to spend the night in our dorm tonight. I’ll probably crash in Whitney’s room tonight.”
“He won’t do anything with her though. I think he’s just worried about her being so drunk.” Ray said. Sabine nodded.
They luckily made it back to the school without falling asleep, and made their way back to their rooms. Everyone gave their pity to the Duran twins, telling them not to give them the dirty details tomorrow. Cheri and Sabine supported each other back to their room. Sky went back with Ray and Brandt to get extra clothing. He was going to spend the night with Cheri to make sure she doesn’t get sick or do anything stupid.
“Good night, bro.” Ray said as she hugged her brother. “I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Okay, bye, Ray. Bye, Brandt!” he called as he walked out the door. Travis and Brandon had already gone into their room and crashed as soon as they walked through the door. Brandt was happy that he had Ray to himself all night. She plopped herself down on her bed, with Brandt doing the same.
“So,” he began cautiously, “I saw you with Kent.” He saw Ray look straight at him, looking frightened underneath the drunkness. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone if you don’t want me too.”
Ray exhaled deeply. “Thanks. Actually, I would prefer it if you didn’t tell anyone. No one really needs to know.”
Brandt nodded. “I understand. It’s our secret. So uh,” he was ready to ask the question that he was dreading to find out all night long. “Are you back together with him?”
Ray kind of smiled and hiccupped. “Sort of. I guess. Oh, I don’t know. I’ll give him a second chance. The thing is, well, I’m not so sure that I can still trust him, you know?” she asked, hiccupping again.
Brandt felt crushed. I mean, he knew he wasn’t gay, but it still hurt. But wait, he said that he doesn’t really know if they were going back out again. A bit of hope filled inside him. “Yeah. Well, don’t worry, it’s your decision to make. Let’s just hope you make the right one.”
Ray hiccupped again and looked at Brandt. Why did he look so disappointed all of the sudden? “Brandt, what’s wro- uhn.” She quickly covered her mouth, shot up from her bed, and dashed towards the bathroom door. Brandt heard vomiting noises not too long after that. He knew Ray looked a little too drunk. He made his way to the bathroom, and found Ray kneeling in front of the toilet.
“Here, let me hold your hair back.” He offered. Ray looked at him, pale in the face, and gagged. She turned to the toilet, and threw up again. Brandt grabbed a hold of Ray’s hair, and gently rubbed her back. It was a good twenty minutes until she was just dry heaving.
“I’ll go get you your pajamas, okay?” he told her softly. She nodded, and then heaved again into the toilet.
Brandt went to Ray’s dresser and pulled out a long pair of pajama pants and a big t-shirt. He dropped them off in the bathroom, and walked out to let her change. After about five minutes, he walked back in, finding Ray completely passed out on the floor. He sighed heavily. Why didn’t he make sure that Ray didn’t drink more than he needed to? He might as well carry him back to his bed. He picked Ray up bride-style, and froze. Was that- were those? Okay…since when did Ray have boobs?
He rushed to the room, placed Ray down on the bed, and stared at her. What? Did he just fell what he thought he felt? Should he double check? He slowly lifted up Ray’s big t-shirt, and quickly pulled it back down. He turned around, blushing harder than ever. Ray… Ray was a girl…
There was no doubt about it. Those were boobs alright. He couldn’t get them off of his mind no matter how hard he tried. God, and here he was thinking that he was gay! Great, now he just confused himself more than needed.
Should he tell someone? Why was she dressed up as a guy? Wait- If he told someone then that would mean he- she would get kicked out of the school! He didn’t want to lose Ray. She was the only one that he could really talk to. Well, besides Karly that is. But if she’s a girl then he got his ass handed to him by a chick? Damn. Should he talk to her about it? No, that would just make things too awkward. Part of him felt relief, but the other half of him was- well, he didn’t know what the other half of him felt.
It was too weird. Why was Ray dressing up as a guy? I mean, he already made up his mind not to tell anyone. If he did then she might be expelled from school, and who knows when he would see her again. God, this is just too weird…
