Hi there, and welcome to my first serious attempt at story uploading on FP. Please read and review, of course, but make sure you make it clear to me what you mean if you have constructive criticism. English isn't my native language, y'see.
Note: If you see something in "italics" these aren't thoughts, but the other voice talking. It seemed a little crude to put it in bold text.
He grunted under the weight of my foot, and I pressed it down a little firmer. At this he stared back up at me, his eyes drilling into mine. Was he trying to intimidate me? I looked down, leering over his pathetic little body, and nudged my foot into his stomach even harder. A small sign of pain flashed through those eyes then, and I smiled in satisfaction. Good, it looked like he’d given up on trying to stare his way out of this.
“I think I’ve made my demands quite clear.” I said to him darkly. This had gone on long enough; it was time to end it.
“I don’t know any more than you do!” he spluttered all of a sudden, and I raised an eyebrow in mock disbelief.
“Oh, I think you do know. Unless you wish to face the same fate as your guard over there.”
I watched him as he struggled to look past my leg, at the mangled form of his ‘security’. He cringed as the man convulsed again, and I made him turn his pale face back to me with another nudge of my boot. He gave a silent nod of his head, and I laughed inwardly. This was too easy. But I still made a point of it to retain the stony glare on my face, and it was enough to make the man talk.
“… Lord Daran knows.” He paused for a moment. “H-He said it was…”
I growled at him, “He said it was what?” Unbelievable. This guy was too loyal for his own good!
“Ah, are you trying to scare me?”
The next moment I was thrown back a few feet, and he stood up quickly. Now the man had a crooked grin plastered on his face, and as I took a closer look at him I realized his eyes were no longer the same. The fear had left his body, and now an entirely different personality stood before me.
I felt my body tense up. I hadn’t expected this…
“So are you trying to scare me now?” I replied gruffly.
He said nothing to that; instead his eyes lit up with a brilliant white light, and then I could only feel pain. But I didn’t have time to scream before it was already over, and as my eyesight cleared his face was inches away from mine. I could feel raw power coming from his raised left hand.
And then the only thing I could hear was the beating sound of blood pumping through my body. I yelled something at him, then…
My hastened footsteps echoed in my head. I sighed as I slowed to a stop for a short break. My surroundings were now damp and dark, and I could hear shouts from the moonlit streets nearby.
‘That was…stupid.’ I could hardly think of anything else. ‘This has to stop. Now.’
“We are far from finished.” Another voice told me, echoing in the deepest pits of my mind.
‘It’s finished if I want it to be! Don’t even try to state otherwise.’ I spat at the voice.
But we both knew. I closed my eyes and rested my forehead on the cool brick wall next to me. This was all so confusing. What was happening to me?
My mind snapped back into focus as a shout came from behind me, and I whirled around just in time to see a spear heading towards me. I dodged the thrust and grabbed the weapon, wringing it out of the guard’s hands. Then I flung him into the wall and allowed the flames in my left hand to do the rest. I paused then, and looked down at the limp body at my feet. The scent of burning flesh invaded my nostrils, and I cringed.
I did know. There was no avoiding it. I sighed at myself and swallowed the lump in my throat. This had to end… I watched as a new batch of guards rounded the corner, and started to run again. My feet carried me down the street, and I disappeared into the night like the monster I knew I was.
