Okay! I have dedicated myself to an ideal: I will write a vampire story with no real love! Sounds impossible? Believe me, I know...

Prologue

“The dead will arise and devour the living.” Apparitions. Phantoms. Do you know what we really are? Those of us that bleed the living to survive, those that lust for the sound of you heart beating in your chest, those who walk among mortals as perfect beings. “We enjoy the night, the darkness, where we can do things that aren't acceptable in the light.” We are what your kind call Vampires.

I believe, you whose innocent soul is reading this, that you have already determined that this book will be a sad love story in which a disheartened fool of a vampire falls in love with a lowly human girl and tries to be ‘good’ for her. You have watched too much television; not even the males of our kind are that ignorant. Vampires are hunters. And while many of our numbers stay inconspicuous by luring our prey, those things just don’t happen off-camera.

Human, I have grown bored, and so I shall give humanity the secrets of our kind. What you do with them is of your own volition merely formy entertainment. But be warned, once your eyes are opened to this world youcannot see, you will not be able to close them; you will see vampires around every corner and in every shadow and rest assured, we will be there. We already are.
