Chapter 1

My mother left my two brothers and me with my uncle. That was what the social worker told us. When my uncle came in and got us, he took us to the car and told us that we would live a very pampered life because he was rich. As the car pulled away from the building he was telling us all the things we would get. I wasn't really listening, but I do remember the Jace and Sabastian yelling about getting their own rooms and their own cars.

I sat in the car thinking about how all the arguing in my life was probably gone. When my parents were alive, there was constant arguing in our small apartment. My mom and dad were constantly arguing and the twins were always arguing with each other or my parents. Jace and Sabastian being identical twins were really identical. They had the same personality and the same goals. They often liked the same girl, which caused more arguing. Three and half hours later we pulled up to an airport. My uncle gave us tickets and pulled out his own.

We were living in Washington, not Washington D.C, but Washington the state. My uncle lived in Massachusetts, so we were moving far away from our friends. I didn't really mind since I had no friends. I was an outcast; I had a few people I hung out with, but not any friends. My brothers were different. They had a big circle of friends, plus they were the school's golden boys. They got good grades without trying; they played football, basketball, and anything else that had a ball in it. The girls fawned over them. I knew they were going to miss that, they had to make a new name for themselves.

We climbed onto the plane, having almost missed it, and took our seats. I was on the inside, near the aisle, because I was deathly afraid of heights. My uncle was three rows behind us, so we could really do anything we wanted. Across from me were two people, a girl and a boy; they looked to be my age. They were odd looking, really pale skin and very sleek hair. The boy didn't seem to want to talk, but it was clear that the girl was bored out of her mind.

"Hi, my name's Aliya, what's yours?" I asked the girl.

"It's Rae, Rae Parnell. What grade are you in?" Rae asked looking over to her brother, but only to find him staring out the window.

"I'm a sophomore. What about you?"

"Kade and I are sophomores!" she exclaimed.

"Kade? That's a neat name," I thought out loud.

"Yeah, it's my brother's, he chose it. We are adopted. Everyone thinks we are twins at first. It's so annoying," Rae commented.

"My older brothers are twins," I said bluntly.

"Oh, cool, what school do you go to?" Rae asked enthusiastically.

"I don't know, I'm actually going to live with my uncle, he's back there," I said point at him.

"I know him! He lives in my town. He's rich!" Rae exclaimed.

"Really, does that mean I go to your school?" I asked curiously.

"Yeah, it does, I hope I see you," Rae said looking at her brother.

"Rae, shut up, you know father doesn't like it when you talk to strangers," Kade said not turning away from the window.

"I don't care, she's Uncle Ross's real niece," Rae retorted.

"Quit talking, you don't know if she's lying," Kade said again.

"Fine," Rae said giving up. She winked at me and started mouthing things to me.

"Uncle Ross is our dad's best friend, that's why we call him uncle," she mouthed.

"Oh," I mouthed back. We continued mouthing things the rest of the time we were on the plane, much to Kade's dislike.

We walked into the mansion my uncle called small. He told us to pick our rooms and we would go shopping for cars, clothes, and other things. I walked through the house, while my brothers ran. I found a small room that would be perfect, if painted a different color. It was pink. I simply hated pink. That's all there was to it. I thought a nice blue would fit it better. That's the room I chose and my uncle came around and asked if I wanted a bigger one, but I declined the offer. Jace and Sabastian both picked huge separate rooms. My uncle took us shopping for our cars first. I got a little dark blue car. Jace got a red convertible and Sabastian got a black one. Then we went to buy clothes since we left everything in Washington. My uncle said we would need new clothes soon anyway because it had been a year since we bought new clothes. My uncle gave all three of us a thousand dollars to spend on clothes. I couldn't believe it after buy three not-so-cheap cars. I wondered the mall and entered the oddest range of stores. I went to everything from Hot Topic to Delia. I spent all of my money and went to go sit in the food court to wait for everyone else. My uncle was still sitting at the table he we left him at. He was reading a book he had brought on the plane.

"Hi," I said sitting down across from him.

"Hey Oceana, your done already? I thought you'd be the last one done," he replied.

"I shop faster than the twins, I really don't care what I wear, as long as it's not completely ugly. But they're different," I replied.

"I never did understand how you got black hair, black hair isn't a recessive gene and it's not in our bloodline or you father's," Uncle said randomly.

I shrugged and said, "Well, neither do I, but I got it."

"I can't see how you don't a boyfriend back in Washington, you're a beautiful young girl," he said looking at me.

"Maybe it's the fact I don't want one," I pointed out, then Jace and Sabastian walked up.

"Hey, Uncle," they said together. They seriously don't try to be exactly alike. They actually hate it when they say the same thing at the same time.

"Hey, boys, got everything?" Uncle asked.

"Yup," Jace replied as Sabastian nodded afraid of saying the same thing as Jace again.

Uncle then explained that we needed food in the house since he hardly ate there. We went to a grocery store, and the twins picked out a bunch of food. All I picked out was a couple of apples and some ice cream. The twin dismissed my lack of food for normalcy; they were used to me not eating that many sweets. The only sweet I couldn't live without was my mint chocolate chip ice cream. Uncle paid for the food and took us home.

When we were in the car, I slapped my head. I forgot to see if we could get paint to paint my room. I asked my uncle and he said he had a couple of colors at home and to see if I wanted one of those before I went and bought some more.

We arrived back at the house, and my uncle showed me the 'couple' of colors he had. He had at least fifty. I looked through all the blues and found a light one, and then I found a navy blue to paint the molding, windows, and doors. The furniture in my room matched my colors, except the quilt on the bed, but that wasn't a problem because I picked one up using my thousand dollars. I got the new quilt and sheets out of the bag they were in and stripped the bed. I put the new bedding on my bed and looked back to admire my work. My uncle walked in to make sure I was settling in okay. He noticed the new sheets, but didn't say anything.

"Are you settling in alright?" he asked. I nodded my head and started to put my new clothes on hangers and into my new walk-in closet. "Okay, you picked you colors, I'll get one of my maids to paint your room tomorrow," he sighed. I nodded again and walked into my closet to hang up yet another pair of jeans. "Come down for dinner, I picked up some things for us to eat tonight since it is your first night here," my uncle said as he left the room.

You could certainly tell my uncle had no idea what to do with the three teenagers in his protection now. I pulled out my ipod, one of three things I brought with me from Washington. One of the other things was my mom's laptop. It had all my music and poetry on it. It was brand new; she had only gotten it a few months before the accident. The last thing was my ipod docking station. It was a little thing that I plugged my ipod into and it played the music out loud. I put my favorite band on, A.F.I. I turned the volume up to block out everything else going on in the house. Suddenly, Jace stuck his head in my room and told me dinner was ready. I turned my music off, mad, because I was listening to my favorite song. Then, I followed Jace, who was following Sabastian. As we walked down the hall, we started to joke around like we used to before we got to high school.

One reason I didn't have a boyfriend or any friends for that matter, was because Jace and Sabastian scared everyone in middle school. They said if anyone ever hurt me they would make their life living hell. No one hurt me, but no one even became my friend, which caused me to become an outcast. In middle school, I had hung around with Jace and Sabastian, but when they got into high school, they didn't want anything to do with me. At home once a week, to get away from the stress of Mom and Dad arguing and anything else, we would sit down and be in middle school again. I would sit in the middle of them while watching marathons of different anime. Of course our nights, usually Saturdays, were kept a secret, because of their rep. They didn't want to ruin their reputation with the people of the school because then they would have no one to talk to except their little sister.

They were quite popular, with being the twin stars of basically every sport the school offered. They got good grades and were the high school's heartthrob. They were extremely close, but still let a lot of other people in. Teachers and students alike admired them.

"Hey, I saw a video store at the mall, I'll run by and get a bunch of shows to watch this week," Sabastian said turning around and looking at us.

"When are we going to have it?" I asked looking up at my two older brothers.

"I wouldn't care if it was every night," Jace said and looked away.

"Me either," Sabastian agreed. "We are certainly going to be stressed." I nodded my agreement and began to walk to the dining room. Sabastian ran to catch up to me and turned me down the hall opposite of where I had been going. I didn't know my way around the house yet.

We all three arrived in the dinning room and found spaghetti on the table. I took a seat on one side of the large table and the twins took the other side.

"Sorry about this 'fancy' dinner, I don't know how to cook much of anything," my uncle said with a small smile. I picked up my fork and took a bite. It was the most repulsive thing I had ever tasted. I put my fork down and looked at my brothers. I thought they were going to puke right at the table, but they didn't. And I knew they would eat it to be polite, and because they were starving. I noticed my uncle wasn't eating his either.

"I don't know how much you like this, but I certainly don't," my uncle said and got up to take his plate to the kitchen. "Anyone else just want to eat sweets for dinner?" he suggested. We all nodded and got up to take our plates to the kitchen and got something from the cabinet. As I reached in the refrigerator for an apple, Jace looked at me and said, "Why, I think you might be able to get a boyfriend now." I smacked his shoulder and blushed.

"You really are beautiful," Sabastian said. "If only you weren't my sister, " he added smirking.

"I'm going to go to my room. Hey, Uncle, do you have a wireless connection here?" I asked before heading out of the kitchen.

"Yes, dear," he replied.

"Why do you want to know about that boring stuff?" Jace asked me before I could walk out of the room. I turned around and said:

"I brought Mother's laptop, along with my ipod equipment, as you saw." With that, I walked out of the room. I wandered through the hallways until I finally found my room again. I opened the door and slipped into the dark room and sat on the bed. I felt around looking for the computer I put on my bed earlier. I finally found it, but as soon as I had turned it on, my uncle called me down stairs. I grumbled and got off the bed.

"There you are Aliya, some people have come to greet your brothers and you," my uncle said as if he were talking to a little kid.

"Hey, Aliya, great to see you again, you want to come hang out with Kade and me? Your brothers are invited, too," Rae said looking at me waiting for an answer. I looked at Rae and then at Kade. He didn't seem too happy about my invitation. "Oh, and don't mind Kade, he's just hates talking to people out of our family," Rae added when she noticed me glancing at Kade.

"Um sure, let me go get a jacket and my brothers," I replied and ran to my room. I already had a friend and I wasn't even at school yet! Once I had grabbed a jacket I ran to Sabastian's room and shouted to get his butt down stairs and ready to go somewhere in five minutes. I ran to Jace's room and shouted the same thing, then back down the stairs and back to the door. I stopped, not even out of breath.

"Wow, you're not even out of breath?" Rae asked curiously.

"She went abnormally fast, as well," Kade said more to himself than to anyone.

"Not really," I replied as Jace and Sabastian came down looking confused.

"What the hel—ck are we doing?" Jace asked catching himself before cussing in front of our uncle.

"We're going out with our neighbors. I met them on the plane, and I showed them who we were with," I replied looking up at them.

"Oh, the girl you were talking with on the plane, I remember now," Sabastian said.

"I'm still confused," Jace said scratching his head.

"Come on, we'll explain in the car," Rae said. I looked at her thankfully for shutting them up. We got into the car and explained everything to Jace. So that's one difference between Jace and Sabastian, Sabastian is a tad more observant.

I sat in the back between Kade and Rae, while Sabastian drove (since it was his car) and Jace sat in the passenger's seat. Rae and I were talking nonstop trying to get to know each other better. Jace and Sabastian were having a conversation about school tomorrow. Kade just sat there looking mad. I looked over to him and Rae whispered in my ear:

"He didn't want to invite you, he doesn't really care for anyone outside of us."

"Who's 'us'?" I asked giving her a confused look with my dark eyes.

"Oh, I didn't tell you? There are about fifteen of us, all around the same age, too. My old mother would have shot herself if she dealt with all those teens," she said rocking back and forth a little. I laughed at her not being able to sit still for more than a few minutes at a time. She had explained to me that when she had first been adopted, she had ADHD, but she grew out of it. When she began talking of this Kade gave her a weird look, but she just brushed it off like it was nothing.

We finally arrived at the ice cream shop after getting lost due to Rae and I talking instead of Rae directing.

I could tell Jace and Sabastian didn't like Kade very much considering he refused to say anything when they got lost. I didn't really notice him, he didn't seem to be a bad person, and he just hated hanging out with us. I didn't understand Kade, but I didn't mind being near him.

We walked inside, I got my mint chocolate chip ice cream and Rae got cake batter. We sat down at a table by ourselves to talk even more. Jace and Sabastian went and sat down a table where Kade was sitting. Kade hadn't gotten ice cream; it was like he didn't want us to know anything about him.

I talked more with Rae and found out she had been adopted only a short time ago. Her mother had been killed in a car accident and she was nearly killed. She hadn't even gone into foster care; she went straight to her new home. We had a nice time, and by the looks of Jace and Sabastian, they had fun too. The only one who didn't look like they had enjoyed themselves was Kade. Kade looked miserable. We pulled into the driveway after a very short time since it was within walking distance of the ice cream shop.

Jace, Sabastian, and I got into the house and went straight to our bedrooms. I grabbed my pajamas and went into my bathroom to change. I pulled the sweats on, put the cami over my head and pulled my hair out of the low pigtails they had been in earlier. I stood there and looked into the full-length mirror as I brushed my long hair. When I left my hair down, it was knee length and black. I had got my bangs a week ago, and they were already covering my eyes. I sighed and put the brush down. I walked out and got into bed, I had to go to school the next day, yippee.
