I’ve recently received a review from someone called Trisha, but hasn’t left her email so I can reply.
And I do feel I need to reply.
Trisha, in response to your review; do you not realise that every director has their own interpretation of a play.
For example, I have seen A Midsummer’s Night Dream twice. One adaption was performed outside with a very Brechtian tone. Constantly reminding the audience that it was just a play (via the Verfremdungseffekt – V-effekt, or alienation), and not the typical Stanislavski outlook. The other adaption had an amazing Indian theme inside using the classic end on staging, and scaffolding, and even a tree at centre stage.
What I m trying to get at here, Trisha, is that every director has their own ideas of how to perform a play, just as every actor has their own interpretation of the character they are playing.
I did, indeed, both read and perform ‘Find Me’ for my GCSE Drama, and I was Verity Taylor. What you have just read, my dear readers, is my own interpretation of this character.
I do not think she is crazy; I do not think that Verity thinks that she is crazy. I think that Verity acted in the way that she did because that is the way she believes that things should be handled. It is how she deals with the problems she is faced with.
Every person has their ideas, their own reactions.
If I were Verity, I would have handled things differently, obviously. But I’m not. And she didn’t.
So yes, Trisha, she may have had autism, as your class has come to the conclusion of. But that is your own interpretation.
I am not having a go, nor am I angry – so please, no one reply to this in a violent form. I’m just trying to explain that…people have different views, different takes…
Trisha and her class may have one interpretation. You, whom-ever you are, may have another. But what you have just read is how I see Verity Taylor.
I am sorry if I have caused any confusion, or any other emotional response to this.
And to Trisha; please take heed of what I have just said. You may not read this; you may give the link to your Drama class to read – I don’t know. But what I do know is that please; think before you write or speak. I’m really not trying to have a go at you.
