Apathy upon Walking

And I have to wonder,

what happened to us- I mean

the disenchanted, disillusioned generation,

children of the: corporate lawyers, neurosurgeons, tenured professors,

we who should have the better life rife with ideals

like social consciousness.

Why the passivity, the inaction?

Of course, it is the error of rebellion from

decades past,

Those progressives who revolted for change,

spurned the status quo.

Their voices were smoldered,

Feeble in their age a long time ago,

The last of their kind succumbing to

Alzheimer’s or such and such cancer.

That of course is why we aren’t speaking out against the

Terror, imperial, fanatic –ism,

Fighting against genocide, matricide.

(What else is dying that we aren’t saving?)

We pass them all by, not a moment to spare

because it’s off to that party,

to get laid, to get high then

off to that midterm

and the bottom line.
