Chapter 3 – Man in the dark

In another building on the other side of the palace territory, a man was sitting in his office’s chair, alone in the dark. The glowing light of the computer screen provided enough light to illuminate the angular features of the man’s pale face, giving it a greenish hue.

Knocks on the door interrupted the silence and two guards came in; one blond and the other dark haired. The man didn’t make any motion to get up at their entry, continuing to look at the screen in total absent-mind-ness.

“We came to make our report, sir.”

Earning no reaction from their master, the blond began reporting. “Tonight, as we patrolled the parliament buildings according to your request, we saw an unidentified man by the corridors and we chased him when he tried to escape. He was hiding in the storage room of the Research’s south wing’s department and we were about to arrest him when Kitazawa-sama interfered and told us that the man was indeed his servant.”

At the mention of Saga’s name, the man had turned his olive-green orbs to the fair-haired guard, who stopped talking at the motion, waiting for the man’s word.

“Kitazawa?” His voice was a low, lazy tone.

“Yes, sir.” the blond answered. Silence filled the room only lighten up by the computer screen's glow. The blond guard broke the chain of thought working up in the man’s head as he remembered a detail. “He told us His Imperial Highness the Heir had heaved him from the ceremony.”

The man aimed his eyes on them, a small bunch of ginger bangs falling partly over his face. “Did he?” He turned back on his chair to face his computer screen again. After thinking over what he had been told, something triggered into his mind. “Where was the unidentified man when you first saw him?”

“In face of the archives’ room.” The darker guard answered.

The man quirked an eyebrow, unbeknownst to the guards as he had his back to them. He thought about a moment, drumming his fingers on the desk before hauling up to his feet and walking over to his men, stopping in front of them. “I want you to keep an eye on that man. And on Kitazawa. You will come to make me a complete report each three days.”

“Yes sir.” The guards responded in unison before they left, leaving the man once again alone in the dark room.

Walking back to his chair, facing the computer, the man ducked his head backwards to face the shadowed ceiling, thinking about what he had been informed of. Kagetsu told him Kitazawa had interfered for a stranger who had been prowling in the Research department, which meant, Kitazawa had indeed been prowling in that departement as well.

A wrinkle formed on his forehead as he thought over the man. He couldn’t care less if Kitazawa hated him or not but if he were to begin nosing around, he’d have to make sure he’d stopped.

Kagetsu had as well mentioned the man was supposed to be Kitazawa’s servant. A snort escaped him as a sniggering smile stretched over his thin lips. Kitazawa having a servant. That was a funny thought of its own if you thought about how the man talked about giving people their freedom.

But the whole story was suspicious. And since he has been expecting some treachery from Kitazawa ever since the man rebelled from his guardianship, he thought it was a good thing to keep an eye on him; even more if the man was to begin nosing in his business.

Leaning further on the chair, the man crossed his hands on his chest.

“What were you doing there Saga…”

Sorry for the shortness! It’s a part that should have been put just at the end of the last chapter. I’ll try to come with the next chapter soon.

Please help me! A while ago, I started reading a story on fictionpress but, dumb as I am, I forgot to jot down the title and now I can’t find it anymore. If you think you know what it is please send me an e-mail; it would be very much appreciated.

That’s what I remember of it.

There’s a new student at the school and he ends up with a roommate who is suicidal– he has dark hair I think, maybe black. But the guy really doesn’t like him and wants to have the room for himself so he sets lots of mean tricks on him; like he locks his roommate inside their room; he staples his roommate’s wardrobe so he can’t open it; he locks him outside of their room so the boy has to go, wearing only boxers, to some office in the school to get a spare key. But the new guy also revenge and at once, while his roommate is in the showers, he triggers the fire alarm and his roommate ends up outside almost naked.

Oh and one last thing I remember is that the dark-haired guy attempts suicide by slitting his wrists but his roommate finds him before he dies.
