Alucard 03:
The Werewolves of Bryn
We arrived in the town of Bryn late that night, almost Thursday. Unexpectedly, upon approaching the town, we were greeted by armed soldiers, dressed in the usual army clothing, in front of the entrance to the town.
Bryn was a town that was about the same size as Victoria’s and mine. Bryn usually was a calm and quite town, hardly anything happened, and most of the soldiers didn’t wear arms or their uniform. There were occasional goblin attacks on the town, but they were few and very far in between. To see armed and dressed soldiers at the entrance was a sign that something had gone wrong recently.
“Hold it!” said one of the soldiers guarding the entrance. “Due to recent events, we can’t just let any person enter Bryn.”
“Recent events?” both Victoria and I asked.
“What do you mean by that?” I asked.
“That information isn’t to be disclosed to any outsiders,” replied the soldier.
“Aw, so your town was attacked by either a man in black or by unusual creatures to the area?”
“Yea… yeah, but how did you know?”
“Our town was attacked earlier today by them,” Victoria said. “We are with the army for Isiolion, and we need to get through to see the president.”
“Well, mainly to lodge for the night right now,” I said.
“Well, hold on,” said the soldier, “and let me talk with our commander.”
The soldier ran into the town to find the commander of the town. Bryn, unlike Isiolion, had a commander in charge of the troops of the town. In certain states, a commander would run the show, usually out of laziness of the mayor to command troops; while in other states, the mayor was in charge of the troops, which was usually because they didn’t want to pay a commander.
After being absent for a few minutes the soldier came back with the commander following him. The commander looked like he was in his early 40s, was about 6’2”, had a military buzz cut with blonde hair, blue eyes, had a bodybuilder build, had two battle axes on his back that were slightly visible from the front, and he had several medals and patches on his uniform. He was a man many criminals or monsters probably wouldn’t want to go against; however, if you’re like me, part of you wants to see if he really is good.
“So I’ve been told that you two are from Isiolion,” said this man in a deep voice. “Please, follow me so that we can talk.”
We did as he asked, each of us a little surprised that he didn’t say anything else to us before asking his to follow him. We arrived shortly at his quarters, which was a two story house. Shortly after getting in his house and having a seat, the expected questioning began.
“So why are you two from Isiolion, soldiers none the less?” asked this man while sitting in a seat of his own.
“We were asked by our mayor to go speak with the president about the events that happened,” I answered. “He believed that if that man attacked our town, that he probably would attack others. And since few of our soldiers could just stand up against the attack of creatures, he thought that several of the states around here might be in danger as well. Seeing that Bryn was attacked as well adds to this belief.”
“Indeed, that probably is a wise idea. We need to get the word out about what happened in an attempt to warn other states about what happened. Though what can we do to protect against that man and his creatures?”
“That’s where Alucard here comes into play, along with an unknown person,” Victoria said. “They are suppose to be able to defeat him if they go around and find some ‘deities’ that seem to possibly be in abnormal environments or areas.”
“Really?” said the man with a tone like he thought she was crazy.
“I can’t really say if that part is true, just what we’ve been told,” I said. “Even if what we were told was an obvious lie, we have to try something.”
“I guess you’re right.”
“Anyways, we need a lodge or something like that for the night, morning, or whatever it is considered right now. You have anywhere here that we can stay?”
“Yes, just go directly straight forward while exiting my house, and then you’ll come across an inn after a while. The inn will be offering rooms for free for anyone that has come during this time. Hopefully the night goes well for you and hopefully neither of our towns will have to deal with any more problems.”
“Thanks,” both Victoria and I said to him as we got up.
“Oh, and I almost forgot, I am Gratz Elrins.”
“This is Alucard Syrn, and I’m Victoria Aleise,” Victoria said.
“Well, we’ll talk to you later Commander Elrins,” I said as we opened the door to leave. “Hopefully on better terms than this.”
We left the commander’s house and headed for the inn, called Bryn 6 Hotel. We checked into a single bed room, and soon we were in the room and asleep. Seemingly, shortly after I fell asleep, there came a female’s scream of death from the town.
Both Victoria and I darted awake from our asleep and quickly got fully dressed, and headed out to the town. The troops seemed confused about what was going on while the awaken townsfolk that were out seem scared, worried, and uncertain.
As we were trying to figure out what happened, we all heard another scream, this time of a man, coming not that far to the right of us. Several of the solders along with Victoria and I hurried to the source of the new screaming.
After blocks, we came to an area to see a man about to be attacked by something that looked like a brown haired werewolf. The werewolf was facing towards us, and on the ground was a man with his arms up in an attempt to stop the creature from hurting it. The werewolf brought one of its claws up and was readying to strike a blow.
I dashed forward, speeding my body and mind up, and the world slowed down as I did, including the creature’s attack. I was able to get within distance to pull out my sword to block the attack. I slowed myself down and time came back to normal.
The werewolf just growled at me, but before it could do anything, I pushed my sword through its hand, continuing through the rest of its body, cutting it in two. I returned my sword back to its sheath as the creature collapsed in two.
“Thank you,” I heard the man mutter out.
As those words were leaving his lips, I felt something quickly running towards my back. I quickly turned around, drawing my blade, and as I did I saw another werewolf; however before I drew my blade, the creature was obviously already dead, but still standing.
“You need to watch out more Alucard,” Victoria said as an X appeared on the creature’s body and it fell into four parts.
“I suppose I should say thank you,” I replied.
“What’s going on?” I heard the commander ask from behind me.
“Apparently some creatures that look like werewolves were attacking the town,” I said as the man who was on the ground had gotten up and had left by now. “However, we dealt with two.”
“Those are the same creatures that attacked our town earlier. Their leader must still be near here.”
“Did they leave in any particular direction?”
“A man in black headed south, I guess to your town, but a white werewolf headed north.”
“Then I’ll go north and find the creature, it can’t be that far.”
“By yourself?” he asked.
“No wi…” said Victoria.
“Yes,” I answered. “If this creature is in control of these creatures like the one in Isiolion, then my weapon will be the only one of use. Victoria, help protect the town.”
“Right,” she replied, “but you sure?”
“Yes.”
With that, I started to head towards the north exit, saying a “later” to Victoria and getting kissed by her. The only thing that laid north of Bryn for awhile was woods, which was a possible disadvantage to me.
“So, one dares to come and find me,” said an echoing male voice from the woods after several minutes of going north on the route from Bryn.
“So you can talk,” I said aloud. “How about you show yourself?”
“Not yet, I rather not feast on you; I would rather wait for someone bigger and better. However, I’m sure the town is having fun defending from my kids.”
Several werewolves appeared from the shadows in front of me.
“And now young idiotical human, you will die like the rest of your kind,” said the voice.
I could help but smile as I put my hand on my sword’s handle and speed up my body. I quickly drew my blade causing my wind strike to go through all of the werewolves that stood in front of me.
As I finished going through my slash, still with everything going slow, I could sense something quickly approaching me from behind and up in the trees. I turned around and saw a white werewolf leap from the branch of a tree towards me.
With its front claws out, I quickly pulled up my sword to block the claws. The force of the impact caused me to go backwards along with the werewolf. As I was falling, I put my right foot up into the creature’s stomach and pushed up with my arms; this caused me to roll and throwing the werewolf some distances away from me. Both of us got up and faced each other: him lowering his claws and me sheathing my sword.
“You might just be some fun after all,” he said to me in a loud and gruff voice that sounded normal even though everything else was going slow. “Hahaha, you must be the one that I was told would be coming this way. A young man, dressed in black, and he was the one chosen by the goddess to save the world.”
Usually, I didn’t pay attention to any rants my opponent would say to me, but a part of it caught my attention.
“How did you know I was chosen by the goddess?” I asked.
“He knew you were chosen as soon as he saw you. Now let’s see how the chosen one can do.”
The werewolf got down on all of its paws, and it started to run around me, ever getting faster. I put my hand on my sword’s handle as I waited for it to attack. As it ran around me, it occasionally went behind a tree, which I expected it to use.
After awhile, the werewolf did disappear behind a tree, but I knew what he was planning on doing. Like before, he tried to pounce on me from a limb again, but unlike before, I rolled forward and thus going underneath him. I quickly turned around and did my wind slash at the wolf, but he was able to leap into a tree before my attack made contact with him.
He leaped around the trees, going further in the woods and circling around there. I could slightly hear him rustling occasional leaves, but he was just slightly out of my sensory area, so I didn’t know precisely were he was at. I sheathed my sword and kept on the ready, waiting for him to enter my sensory area, and trying to figure out how to win against him.
“Perhaps I should try,” I thought to myself.
I started to sense the werewolf coming back towards me. So I decided it best to try what I thought about doing.
“Reaper form,” I said aloud.
I turned into the reaper like entity that I had before with scythe in hand. I could sense that the werewolf was very close now.
“Nice trick,” the wolf said, “but not good enough.”
The wolf jumped out from my right and did his pathetic pounce attack. Somehow, by instinct in this form, I knew how to dodge by teleporting myself above him.
As I was above him, he seemed to be trying to figure out where I moved to. I cocked my arm and threw my scythe at him. Before my scythe hit him, the werewolf looked up and saw it coming; fortunitly though, he wasn’t able to dodge it.
The scythe swung around and hit his back, going through and pinning him to the ground. I landed on the ground next to him.
“Damn you,” he said. “Damn you and that goddess! You will never be able to defeat my master.”
“We’ll see,” I said as I put my hand on the scythe’s handle, “now won’t we?”
I pulled the scythe towards the wolf’s head, cutting open the wolf and killing him: him screaming as I pulled it through the remaining part of his body. I slowly walked away from him and headed towards the town, transforming back into my normal form shortly after walking away.
I was back in Bryn about ten minutes later. As I approached, I saw several werewolves dead amongst the town, along with a few soldiers. Victoria found me as I walked around the town trying to find her.
“Alucard,” she said while running up to me, “did you take care of the werewolf in the woods?”
“Yeah,” I replied, “and it wasn’t like these. Even in my sped up state, it moved about as fast as me. It defiantly wasn’t the same as that minotaur; however, the wolf wasn’t as strong as the minotaur.”
“Well that’s good.”
“How about here? Looks like there was a battle here.”
“Yeah, several minutes after you left, werewolves swarmed the town. About ten minutes or so, the remaining werewolves just died.”
“So they must have had some ties with the white werewolf,” I said. “I killed it about ten minutes ago. Anyways, where’s the commander?”
“Trying to make sure the area is secure,” Victoria answered. “He told us to wait at his house till he got back.”
“Shall we then?”
We proceeded to go and wait at the commander’s house. Really, neither Victoria or I really wanted to go because we were tired, but we both knew we should finish the night by talking with him. We both knew that we would probably also talk to him later today when we left.
It was about an hour before Commander Elrins got back. He looked tired obviously from running around doing whatever he was doing.
“Ah, Alucard,” he said, “so you are alive.”
“You sound as if you expected me not to be,” I replied.
“I wasn’t expecting a pup to survive.”
“I’m more of a vicious pup than apparently all of your troops.”
“Can’t argue there, you were able to take the leader as compared to the rest of us.”
“So is there anything you wanted to tell us?” asked Victoria.
“Oh, no,” he said. “I just wanted to tell you that the town seems to be safe for now and hope you two have a good and restful rest, this time.”
“Thanks,” I said, “and we’ll be heading on your way.”
“Thanks for the help,” he said.
Both of us left his house and went back to our hotel room. Both of us quickly fell asleep after getting back into our bed.
We arose about 10:00 that day. It took till 11:00 for each of us to fully get prepared and to start to leave Bryn.
“Hold on you too!” we heard a familiar male voice yell from behind us.
Each of us turned around to see Gratz, the commander, running to get to us. When he did stop shortly in front of us, he was breathing hard.
“Are you alright?” Victoria asked.
“Yeah, just not used to so much running.”
“So what did you want Commander?” I asked.
“For helping us here in town,” he said while handing us a small bag of gold. “I’m sure it’ll help on your journey to see the president. Along for paying for rooms and supplies.”
“Thanks,” I said while putting the gold with the rest of the money. “We’ll do our best to stop the man who has attacked both of our towns.”
As we walked away from the town, I felt good about us being able to help, hopefully stopping the attacks on Bryn. Though as we got further away, I started to wonder how strong the man in black could be. If his commanding minions for a small area were able to stand up against me, then how strong could he be? All I could hope was that the powers and abilities obtained from the deities would help me reach his strength.
