A/N: Well this is my new story, Yin and Yang. It'll probably have less chapters than Maybe It was Meant to Be, but will probably be longer.

Yin and Yang

Chapter One: Because You Remind Me of Someone

A young girl with long black hair wandered down the freshmen hall. Mina Callten, a freshman at Olympia High, was always one of the last people out of the school because she preferred to stay awhile longer, wandering around the school. She turned right and walked up the stairs to the sophomore hall. She turned left and continued down the hall.

She looked left into a corridor she had not noticed before. It was pitch-black in there, but she saw a faint blue light at the end of it. She walked into the corridor until she saw a young man sitting against the wall with an mp3 in his hand. She could not see what he looked like clearly, but she knew his hair was a dark color and that he was wearing all black. He looked up and held a up hand, a signal to wait.

About thirty seconds later, he took out his earphones and pocketed the mp3. He stood up. “Who are you?” he asked.

“My name is Mina Callten, a freshman. May I ask who you are?” she asked.

“I’m nobody to everyone.”

“Come on. You have to be known to at least someone.”

“Well, people know who I am, but not what I’m like or what I do. My name’s Mark Darkwood, a sophomore. What are you doing here?” he asked.

“I wander around the school for as long as I can. What are you doing here in the dark?”

“Like I said, I’m nobody to everyone.”

They heard footsteps approaching. Mark quickly grabbed Mina and pulled her down, blocked from view by a box. Someone stood at the entrance of the corridor. Mina couldn’t see who it was with the box in her way. Whoever it was shrugged and walked away.

“What was that about?” she whispered.

“I don’t know why, but we’re not supposed to be in here. That’s why there’s a bunch of boxes, and it's pitch-black.” he said. He got up and helped Mina to her feet. “This is probably the longest conversation I’ve ever had with a girl. I don’t know why, but you interest me.”

“Like how?” Mina asked.

“Most of the girls that talk to me, just flirt, and I ignore them. You, on the other hand, aren’t like that.” Mark replied.

“But you barely know me.”

“But I can tell. And those who don’t flirt don’t bother to talk to me. You land right in the middle.”

“Thanks, I guess.” Her phone vibrated. She opened it and saw that it was her mom. She lived too far away to walk, but too close that the bus would come. “I have to go. I’ll talk to you another time.” She started to walk away.

Mark pulled her back and look into her eyes. “I’ll look forward to that Mina.” They smiled at each other. He released his grip, and she left the corridor. Mark stood in the dark, feeling something he had not felt for a long time, happiness.

Mark Darkwood talked to you?” Mina looked up and said, “Yes Rhea, that’s what I said. Why does that surprise you?”

The girl named Rhea, who had shoulder-length brown hair, replied, “Most people who know him call him Dark because of his personality. Of what I know, there are three people he’ll sometimes hang out with: Trey Ellose, Richard Saren, and Marissa Newson. He only talks to them, but most of time he doesn’t say anything. There’s also the fact that he wears all black.”

“And you know this how?” Mina asked.

“Kara’s friends with Marissa.” Kara Noefall, who was Rhea’s sister, looked up from her lunch. “I wouldn’t exactly call us friends.” She said. “I’m not comfortable when Mark is around. There’s something about that guy that makes feel, I don’t know, sad? If Mark’s not around, I’ll sit with Marissa.” Kara pointed at a table at the back corner of cafeteria.

Mina could see Mark sitting at the table with Trey, Richard, and Marissa. Mark said something, got up, and walked towards the exit. Without saying anything to Rhea or Kara, Mina got up and followed him.

“Mark, wait!” she cried out once she had caught up with him. He turned around. “Mina.” He said, surprised.

She noticed something different about him and saw the necklace with the Yin and Yang symbol attached to it. “I didn’t notice that yesterday.” She said, indicating the necklace around his neck.

“I had it on, it was just under my shirt.”

Mina nodded. “My friends said that you barely talk to anyone, but yesterday to talked to me as though you knew me for all your life. Why is that?” she asked.

Mark looked down to the ground and said, “Because you remind me of someone I was really close to in the past.”

“Oh,” she said, “Does the necklace have to do anything with that?” He nodded and continued to stare at the ground. “But I’d rather not talk about it.” He said before she could say anything.

Mina opened her mouth to say something, but the bell rang. Mark removed his gaze off the floor and turned around. “I’ll see you later, Mina.” He said and walked away.
