Small paws, black hair,

Innocent eyes with a friendly stare.

Barking? No, you wouldn’t dare.

If food was dropped, in a flash you’d be there.

Memories of winter and you pawing

Through snow to find where the snowball had fallen.

Chasing you around the house-

Back then you were friskier than a mouse.

But you will leave an empty space,

A space impossible to fill,

As refills don’t exist for love.

So why did you have to get ill?

Burdened with a shoulder-mountain,

Slowed by years and years of age,

You still lived on to be with us,

And that just makes me blind with rage.

Why Ginger? Oh, sweet Ginger,

Who could never harm an ant,

Why you whose life was taken away?

I can’t go on, I can’t!

Tears flow freely like salted honey.

I’ll miss you dearly, but now I’m nearly

Done thinking you’re completely gone

And I will mark this day yearly.

You are not gone from my heart,

And through memories we will never part.

This is about my friend's dog who had to be put to sleep. She had a giant tumor on her shoulder and she had difficulty just getting up and moving. She was the best dog ever. I really mean it. I've known my friend since kindergarten, and that's when I met Ginger. It's still hard for me to accept that she's gone.

I know the rhyming is kind of cheesy, but I was really upset when I wrote this and I don't want to change it.
