Yeah and the song for this chapter is from Hannah Montana and I don’t want to hear any trash about her and my song choice! There are going to be some of her songs in here because some of her songs fit with this story! So please if you don’t like any of the songs or the singer please don’t burn me on it and pretend it’s a different song that you like that you think will fit the chapter!

Chapter 3: New School Life

This is the life! Hold on tight!

And this is the dream

It’s all I need!

You never know where you’ll find it

And I’m going to take my time, yeah

I’m still getting it right

This is the life.–Sung by Hannah Montana

Kendra plopped on her bed after washing the dishes like her mother asked her since their dishwasher needed to be fixed. She felt like she was in some dream. She had never expected one day to see the first male friend she had ever made in her life again and he was still wearing the tooth necklace she gave him! That made her insides flutter and he even said he hadn’t taken it off since then that made even giddier, which she found strange. But she didn’t care, she was happy and that’s all that mattered to her.

She sighed pleasantly feeling strangely happy about her encounter. She could feel one of her chains starting to break. ‘He’s still the same guy I met back then.’ She then groaned as her pleasantness disappeared. ‘But…I’m not exactly the same as I was back then. I wonder if he will be okay with that.’ Kendra chuckled feeling stupid for thinking that. ‘Of course he’ll be okay with it he shouldn’t expect me to be the exact same person that I was ten years ago.’ “I can’t wait to see him at school!”

She suddenly gasped. “Oh no school!” She quickly sat up on her knees. “Oh shit.” She bit her thumb. ‘Will he still like me after meeting my classmates? They’re not really what you call “nice”.’ She looked up at the ceiling feeling the chain stop breaking. “Please God let something go my way just this once.” ‘I really don’t want to lose a good friend to the assholes at my school.

She lowered her gaze. ‘At least I hope he is still good. Sure he seemed nice today but…how do I know he’s not just faking it?

“Kendra?” She heard her younger sister call her out.

She snapped out of her thoughts as Diana rushed up to her with a golden retriever following close behind her. “What do you want?” She questioned her sister in slight concern.

She bounced down on her sister’s bed. “Eve and I want to hear a song.”
Kendra groaned in dismay feeling her chains tighten at the thought. “But I sang to you guys last week.”

“Yeah but it’s always been a tradition that you sing to Connor and me.”

“Yeah when you two were younger. But you guys are like ten so I don’t think you would want to hear me sing in order for you two to sleep comfortably.” Kendra defended sternly.

Diana pouted stubbornly. “No matter how old you get you never grow tired of hearing someone sing, especially if they are really good.”

She sighed shaking her head. “Sorry Diana but I’m not really in the mood for singing right now. Besides I have to get new strings for my guitar and you know me I can’t sing without it.”

Her sister grumbled. “Excuses excuses.”
“Hey I’m not trying to make excuses.” Kendra defended herself. “I just have to be in the mood and my guitar has to be in good shape before I decide to play anything.”

“Sure whatever.” Diana snorted in distaste knowing full well that her sister was fibbing.

“Kendra Diana?”

They looked over towards their bedroom door to spot their mother standing in the doorway. She sighed. “Can you guys wash Eve? She really needs a bath.”

Kendra groaned rolling her eyes. “Can’t Josh and Connor do it?”
“Kendra they both did it last week. So now it’s your turn.” Ruth told her sternly. “We’re a team in this house and we all have to do our part.”

Kendra just rolled her eyes. “Yeah yeah whatever.

Diana narrowed her gaze at her sister. “You know I liked you better when you were actually willing to sing!”

Kendra’s gaze shot back at Diana as she stood up and stomped out of the room with Eve following. Her heart suddenly sank at her words and looked at her mother who sighed shaking her head. “Don’t worry about it. She’s just cranky.”

Kendra grumbled. “She ain’t three anymore mom.”

Ruth chuckled. “I know but even older people get cranky.” She gave her daughter one last glance before turning to walk towards the stairs. ‘I sure hope with Athan being around that she’ll recover a bit better.

Kendra watched them leave before sighing shaking her head feeling the chain grow heavy. ‘Diana just doesn’t understand.’ She gasped. ‘Wait! Will Athan bring up the whole singing thing!?’ She groaned. “Man I sure hope not.”

The next day went by uneventful. Kendra baby-sat her brother and sister since Josh had gone back to his dorm in Steven’s Point and her parents went to work. For some odd reason Diana hadn’t talked to her the whole day but her cousin Alison made up for it since she had called and chatted with Kendra for a while. Athan on the other hand him and his folks were busy unpacking their things and getting their rooms organized so they looked roomier. Then before either of them knew it-it was already dark and time for them to rest up for the new day so they could be ready for the beginning of a new school year.

Athan and Cody stood in front of Northland Pines High School as their mother drove away.

“Wow compared to the school in Waukesha this is small.” Cody commented amazed by his observation.

Athan leaned towards him slightly saying with a blank tone. “That’s because it’s a country school not a city school.”

Cody grumbled watching his brother stroll towards the school before following in pursuit.

“Uh excuse me?” Athan spoke up to the school’s sectary.

The middle-aged woman turned her gray eyes from her computer screen to him. “Yes may I help you?”
“Uh yes um…” He propped his arm on the counter. He then pointed his thumb back at his younger brother. “My brother and I are new this year and we haven’t received our schedules or locker numbers yet. So if you weren’t mind giving them to us that would be greatly appreciated.”

“Oh yes of course” She said quickly standing up from her office chair. She turned towards the filing cabinets and rummaged through the files.

Cody glanced around the school’s office continuing to compare their old school to this one while Athan kept his attention on the woman.

Wonder if Kendra’s here yet.’ He lowered his gaze slightly. ‘Probably not.

“Ah here you are.” The woman spoke up snapping him out of his thoughts. He raised his gaze to stare at her as she smiled handing over their schedules. “We hope you enjoy your first day here.”

Athan returned the smile. “I hope we do too.” With that said the two walked out of the office.

“Okay Athan give me my schedule.” Cody demanded holding out his hand.

Athan gladly handed him his schedule. “Now don’t go getting into any trouble.”

He glared slightly. “Yes mother.”

Athan returned the glare watching his younger brother stroll away from him. He shook his head before going down a different hallway.

He glanced around at the locker numbers trying to find his. “150, 151 ahah 152.” He stopped in front of the locker and began rolling in his locker combination. Once he opened it he began unpacking his green and brown backpack while doing so he glanced around the hall.

Maybe Kendra takes the bus to school. If her parents work in the morning and if she lives far from this school then she could very well be taking the bus.’ He thought.

“Oh look we got a new comer girls.”

“Mm?” He turned his attention towards the unfamiliar voice. He met the gaze of a teenage girl looked to be his age with dark chocolate brown eyes. Her long blonde hair flew pass her shoulders and her figure was thin with no curves and a small chest. Next to her where two other girls one with curly black hair that went mid-length and blue eyes and the other girl had brown hair with red highlights and gray eyes.

The blonde smiled at him seductively. “Oh and he’s a hot one.”

“Yeah he beats some of the guys at this school.” The black haired girl commented.

“Oh he maybe cute but I still think Kyle is hotter.” The brown haired girl argued catching their glances.

“Yeah there is that.” The blonde sighed before returning her smile to him. “But I think they are evenly matched.”

Athan tried to process what they were all saying but he didn’t even know these girls or the guy they were even talking about so he gave up. “Okay okay who the heck are you girls?”

“Oh sorry how rude of us.” The blonde gasped sounding somewhat fake. She placed the hand over her chest. “I’m Brittney Dover and these two.” She waved her hand towards the black haired girl and the brown haired girl. “Are my friends Rosalina…”

The black haired girl waved. “Nice to meet you.”

“And Mary.” The brown haired girl giggled before waving.

Athan nodded strangely getting a bad vibe from the three and felt that he was already disgusted with them even though this is the first time he has met them.

“And you are…” Brittney went on waving her hand towards him.

He caught the signal. “I’m Athan, Athan Wilson.”

“Athan? Wow never heard of that name before.” Brittney commented crossing her arms.

“Yeah well my parents wanted to name me something different I guess.” He replied indifferently.

Brittney smiled. “Well in your case it’s good to be different.”

Athan arched a brow. “What do you mean by “in your case”?”

She waved her hand reassuringly. “Oh don’t worry about it. It has nothing to do with you so it shouldn’t matter right?’

Athan groaned for some odd reason he did not like the sound of that. Once he had his binder in his arm he closed and locked his locker. “Well I better get to my class so…”

“Oh we’ll escort you!” Brittney said quickly. “We do know this school better than you do so we maybe able to help you get to your class.”

“I’d rather do it myself.” Athan replied. ‘Besides I want to try finding Kendra.

“Oh independence.” Brittney spoke up nodding in approval. “I like that in a man.”

He grumbled getting the feeling she was fibbing. “Well I don’t like girls who just can’t leave a man alone when he wants to be left alone.”

Brittney jerked surprised by his comment before chuckling. “Okay okay I get it. I guess I could let you go this once but don’t come crying to me if you get lost.”

“How can I possibly get lost in this school?” He grunted angrily. He didn’t know why but for some odd reason he did not like this girl and he wanted to get away from her, fast. “It’s not even that big.”

“You’d be surprised.” Brittney called out to him as he quickly walked away.

Athan quickened his pace he did not like that girl. There was something about her that really made him want to spit at her. Then again his mother had told him he had a good judge of character considering all of his friends back at his old school were decent respectful people and even having Kendra has his friend was even more prove that he had a good sense of character. So he could already tell that Brittney was somebody he did not want to get involved with.

He made it towards the office again just to spot more students herding in. ‘Finally a bus as arrived, maybe it’s even Kendra’s bus.’ At that moment he realized how relieved and peaceful he was just knowing that Kendra was going to this school. Though he’ll admit he had felt like something was missing when they parted ten years ago but he always thought it was because none of his friends had thing for singing like Kendra and him did. Most people back at his old school thought that boys singing was stupid. But now he’s starting to think there’s something more going on that he’s not quite seeing.

He tilted his head ignoring his last thought. ‘Maybe this year we can get back to being the singing duo.’ His eyes hovered the crowd of unknown students to try and spot his friend. That’s when he spotted a familiar brown curly hair bouncing in the crowd.

He smiled as he called out. “Kendra!”

Kendra jumped to a stop at her hearing her name before sighing in relief when she spotted Athan. She then smiled feeling her chains lighten up a bit. “Hey you.” She strolled up at to him shifting her book bag strap further on her shoulder. “How are you doing?”

He sighed. “I’m good other than being tired.”

“I wouldn’t blame you considering you were unpacking all day yesterday.”

“Yep and we still have a lot to do.”

“You’re still unpacking stuff?”

He grimaced. “Well somewhat. We basically got all the important stuff unpacked.”

“What like all your rooms?” Kendra asked propping her hands on her hips.

Athan nodded. “Yep and of course the bathrooms we just started working on the living room and kitchen when it was time to hit the sack.”

“Well at least you have most of it done and pretty soon you’ll be all settled in.” Kendra replied with a smile.

Athan returned the smile before sighing. “Yeah can’t wait for that. I really want to get rid of some of those boxes they’re like taking over the whole house!”

Kendra chuckled. “Do you guys honestly have that much stuff?”

“My mom’s a nick-knack fanatic. There’s almost like…five or six boxes filled with her nick-knacks.”

“Wow and I thought my mom was bad.” Kendra replied softly lowering her gaze slightly.

Athan glanced at her bag before looking back at her. “Let’s get you to your locker.”

“Mm?” She raised her gaze. “What about you? Don’t you have to get to your locker?”

He raised his binder. “Already did.” He lowered his binder back to his side. “Our mom dropped us off so we could get out schedules since they weren’t mailed to us.”

Kendra nodded. “Makes sense.” She smiled as she walked with him down a new hallway. “But now we have more time to catch up.”

Athan smiled. “You bet that’s right. So how was baby sitting your siblings yesterday?”

“Argh horror.” Kendra complained closing her eyes. “Connor and Diana kept getting into fights over stupid things. The two fought me on everything I asked them to do and Diana wouldn’t talk to me the whole day.”

“Wow sounds like you had a really bad day.” Athan commented feeling bad for his long lost friend. He arched a brow. “Why wouldn’t Diana talk to you?”

She shrugged. “I don’t know she hadn’t told me. My mom kept giving me the excuse that she was just cranky but I highly doubt it.”

Athan sighed shaking his head. “Kids and their moods. Sometimes they act like three year olds.”

“Got that right.” Kendra agreed nodding her head. “And my siblings are living proof of that.” He chuckled lightly.

They reached her locker and he watched her as she rolling in her combination. Once it was open and she started unpacking her bag he glanced around the school taking in it’s design.

“You know I’ve only been in this school for a few minutes…” He began catching Kendra’s glance, “And I already feel cramped.”

Kendra chuckled lightly. “Figured as much since you are probably use to big schools, considering you are from Waukesha.”

He looked at her somewhat surprised. “How did you know about that? I never told you where I was from?”

“Leena told me.”

Athan grunted at that before leaning against a locker. “Yeah I guess I’m so use to big schools that it’s just so strange being in a small one.”

“I’m sure you’ll get use to it as time goes by.” Kendra reassured him.

“Yeah I’m sure this school won’t be too hard to get around.” Athan replied. “It’s basically only one level.”

“See?” She replied happily waving her hand towards him. “You are already getting the hang of it.”

“I’m not sure I would call that “getting the hang of it”.” He crossed his arms. “I find it more as an observation type thing.”

“Kendra!”

Kendra jumped and whipped her head towards the voice. Athan noticed the sudden jump and raised a brow. ‘What was that about?

A young girl ran towards her smiling with her chocolate brown eyes gleaming with excitement as her shoulder length brown hair with blonde highlights blowing in the back.

She smiled immediately recognizing the girl. “Chelsea!” She turned slightly just as the girl gently tackled her with a hug. Kendra almost lost her balance but caught it with her back against Athan’s chest.

Athan had his arms out to catch her just in case this strange girl knocked her completely over.

“Oh man it seemed like a lifetime before seeing you again!” Chelsea said before pulling away from Kendra.

Kendra chuckled lightly. “It was only for a few weeks.”

“Yeah but it seemed like forever.”
Kendra just smiled. “So how was your trip to Florida?”

Chelsea waved her hand at her happily. “Oh it was great. Though I’ll give more of the details once Alison and Carolyn get here.”

Kendra grunted slightly, which Athan noticed. ‘Now what’s with that attitude? She sounds like she doesn’t want to talk to them.’ He tilted his eyes up to the ceiling. ‘Maybe it’s this Carolyn that made that grunt pop up since she told me that her and Alison were best friends.

That’s when Chelsea noticed Athan for the first time. “Oh hello.” She caught their attention as she pointed at him. “Who are you?”

“Oh this is Athan Wilson.” Kendra introduced waving her hand towards him. “He just moved here two days ago.” She looked up at Athan as she moved her hand towards Chelsea. “And this Athan is Chelsea Brown one of my friends.”

He nodded before holding out his hand to her. “Nice to meet you.”
Chelsea returned the smile before shaking his hand. “Likewise.” She gazed over at her friend. “Did the office ask you to show him around?”

“No actually I met him in a resort ten years ago.” Kendra corrected shaking her head slightly.

“What? So…you actually know this guy even before he moved here?” She questioned sounding so surprised about her answer.

Kendra nodded. “Yep though we haven’t really stayed in contact with each other since we separated but…” She smiled up at Athan, “I think now we’ll be able to make up for it.”

Athan returned the smile.

“Well Carolyn and Alison will be surprised to hear about this.” Chelsea spoke up propping her hands on her hips.

“What she never mentioned me?” Athan questioned tossing a questionable stare at his friend.

Kendra chuckled weakly shrugging. “Must have…slipped my mind.” ‘Though then again with everything that had happened after that no one can really blame me for not mentioning it.

Athan stared at her finding himself strangely disappointed and Kendra noticed his stare and immediately regretted what she had just confessed. “I’m sorry Athan I didn’t mean to forget it’s just…”

Athan shook his head. “Oh no it’s okay we’re together again and that’s all that matters right?”

Kendra stared him surprised by his answer or more so how much it made her heart pound but immediately shook it off and smiled at him. “Yeah and I promise I’ll make it up to you.”
Athan smirked holding out his hand. “Then let’s start by handing me your phone number.”
Chelsea and Kendra jerked their heads back surprised by his sudden friendly demand. Kendra then gasped remembering his request. “Oh yeah that’s right.”

She immediately turned towards her locker to get out a notebook and a pen. “I almost forgot about that.”

“Heh then be glad I reminded you.” Athan snorted cockily.

“So where did you move here from?” He heard Chelsea speak up catching his gaze.

“Waukesha.”

“Whoa so you basically moved from somewhat of a city to the country?”

“Yep basically.”

“Why?”

He shrugged. “Don’t know. It was really my mother’s idea to move out here.”

“Here you go.” They looked at Kendra as she ripped out the paper and handed it to Athan. “Our numbers on there and our address.”

“Thank you.” He thanked as he dug it into his pocket.

“Ah I see you found Kendra already.”

“Mm?” He hummed looking behind him as Cody approached him. He grumbled. “What couldn’t find anyone to talk to?”

Cody narrowed his gaze. “Sorry to disappoint you but no. How can you expect me to talk to somebody on my first day?”

“Easy just go up and talk to them.” Athan encouraged him not wanting his younger brother near him.

“It’s not that easy. It may have been easy for you considering you actually know someone here but I don’t, at least anyone in my grade.” Cody argued.

“Hey don’t go complaining to me since I can’t really help you in that department. The only thing I can tell you is start walking around. I’m sure someone will notice and come up to you and talk to you.” Athan answered gruffly.

“Uh sorry to interrupt but um…” Chelsea spoke up catching their attention. She pointed at Cody, “But who are you?”

“Oh this is Athan’s younger brother, Cody.” Kendra informed her pointing at Cody.

“Oh I guess that would makes sense.” She muttered nodding while rubbing her chin. “You two do sort of look alike.”

Athan and Cody grumbled at her observation. “And boy do we regret it.” Cody grunted gruffly.

Chelsea tilted her head while Kendra rolled her eyes. “Anyway I guess you could stick with us until Alison comes then you could chat with her.” Kendra suggested.

“What?” Athan gaped out not liking the idea.

“Alison?” Cody repeated ignoring Athan’s unlikable tone. “Who’s that?”

“She’s my cousin and she’s in the same grade as you.”

Cody smirked at that. “Oh that sounds good and a bit relieving. I just hope she’s cool with me.”

“Oh I’m sure she will.” Chelsea reassured him. “Alison usually gets along with practically everybody.”

“Unless you are a stuck up brat, which I doubt you are.” Kendra added.

“Well at least some people might see him like that.” Athan snorted tossing a light glare at Cody.

Cody returned the glare. “Well the same goes for you.”

“Do you guys always fight like this?” They heard Kendra ask them softly.

Athan glanced at her. “Unfortunately for you, yes we do.”

Kendra groaned with frustration. “Well then can you guys try keeping it to a minimum?” She tilted her head. “I have enough sibling fights at my house to last a lifetime and I don’t want to have to deal with more sibling rivalry here at school.”

Cody sighed. “We’ll try but we can’t make any promises.”

Kendra sighed.

“Well anyway we should probably get to our classes.” Chelsea spoke up catching their attention. She glanced over at Kendra. “You ready to go?”

“Oh!” Kendra said quickly turning to her locker grabbing her binder. Once she had her blue binder in her arms she closed and locked her locker. She turned to smile at her friends. “Ready.”

Chelsea smiled at her before going down the hall with Kendra and the two boys following her.

“So what class do you have?” Chelsea asked Kendra.

“Mm? You mean for first hour?”

She nodded. Kendra sighed. “Speedwriting.”

“Aw man! I don’t have that class.”

“What do you have?” Kendra questioned.

Chelsea sighed. “I have biology first hour.”

Kendra grimaced. “Ouch having science first thing in the morning is not a good combination.”

“Oh I’m sure it won’t be that bad.” Chelsea groaned. “Just as long as I have one of my friends in it then I’m fine.”

“Well maybe Carolyn has it with you.” Kendra replied trying to be optimistic.

“No I rather have her in an afternoon class. You know how crabby she is this early in the morning.”

Kendra sighed softly. “Yeah I know.”

“Ya know this Carolyn sounds like she could be a pain in the neck.” Athan spoke up making them look back at him.

“Yeah she can be.” Kendra admitted to him. “But she has her moments.”

“So what class to you have first hour?” Chelsea cut in before he could go any further with his questions.

Athan tossed his stare at her. “Drawing.”

“An art class?” Chelsea repeated.

Kendra arched a brow. “You’re into art?”

“As a matter of fact I am.” Athan admitted with a small smile. “I kind of had a knack for it since 5th grade.”

“Yeah even I will admit he is really awesome at drawing and stuff like that.” Cody defended his brother.

Kendra then smiled. “I kind of had a feeling for that.” She tilted her head up at Athan. “Considering what you always did at the Black Bear Resort.”

“What did he always do?” Chelsea asked sounding a bit confused.

Kendra looked at her. “He always made sand castles and very good ones too.”

Athan rubbed the back of his head. “They weren’t all that good.”

“Compared to mine they were.” She defended.

“That’s because you haven’t had enough time to practice.” Athan pointed out. “My mother helped me out most of the time until I was able to do it myself.”

“Well either way it would make sense to why you would go for an art class.”

“Guess I can’t argue with that.” Athan replied softly.

“Kendra! Chelsea!”

They hummed turning their attention down the hall has a teen girl rushed towards them. Her black mid-length black with blonde highlights blew in the back as she approached them.

She greeted them with a bright smile. “Good morning guys!”

Chelsea and Kendra returned the smile and nodded.

“Glad to see you actually made it in time Alison.” Kendra commented teasingly.

“Hey! I made it on time last year too.” Alison defended narrowing her gray eyes at her.

“Yeah barely most of the time.”

“Hey it wasn’t my fault that my stupid brother doesn’t know how to get up at the right time!”

Kendra chuckled. “Yeah I know.” She playfully punched her shoulder. “I just like messing with you.”

Alison sighed. “But luckily my brother woke up early today.”

“Well this is like his last year.” Chelsea reminded her propping her hands on her hips. “So he can’t really afford to be late unless he doesn’t want to graduate with a good record.”

“He already doesn’t have a good record.” Alison murmured sounding disappointment.

“Yeah but maybe this year he wants to clean it up.” Kendra commented again trying to be optimistic.

“One can only hope.” Alison replied softly. That’s when she noticed the two boys behind them, she pointed at them. “Uh who are you guys? Why are you hiding behind my friends?”

“We aren’t hiding.” Cody corrected her stepping up beside Kendra. “We were following.”

“Okay then... why were you following them?” She rephrased herself eyeing him.

Cody caught the eye and instantly knew he said the wrong thing. “Oh! I didn’t mean it like we were stalking them or anything! We weren’t we just…”

“We just know them.” Athan finished his brother’s explanation. “Well mainly Kendra we know so we’re following her around because we do know her.”

“Wait a second.” Alison replied arching a brow as she moved her eyes up and down them. She pointed at them. “Are you two by any chance Athan and Cody Wilson?”

“Uh yeah we are.” Cody replied sounding a bit surprised. “How did you know?”

Alison then chuckled. “Ah so that would make sense. Kendra informed me yesterday that two knew students were coming to our school and that she was friends with them.”

Cody sighed in relief before smiling at Kendra. “Thank you for saving our butts with her. I swear it sounded like she was about to punch us.”

“I would have if Kendra weren’t friends with you.” Alison admitted truthfully. She gave them a stern stare. “Since if anyone messes with my cousin or any of my friends they will have hell to pay.”

Cody jerked causing Alison to laugh. “Oh but don’t worry you guys aren’t on that list.”

“Well thank god for that.” Cody replied in great relief.

“Oh! I’m Alison Grove by the way.” She introduced pressing her hand over her chest.

“Yep and you are Kendra’s cousin am I correct?” Cody questioned knowing he was right.

Alison raised a brow in surprise. She pointed at him. “How did you know?”

“Well just like Kendra informed you about us Kendra also informed us about you.” Athan answered digging his free hand into his pocket.

“Well thank you Kendra.” She thanked her cousin gratefully with a smile. “You saved me from explaining.”

Kendra chuckled. “Figured you would appreciate that.”

“Well I’m going to head to my locker since,” She pointed her thumb at her blue shoulder backpack, “I need to unload this bag and get to my class.”

“Mind if I go with you?” Cody questioned strolling up to her. “Since I rather not spend the morning with my brother I spent enough time with him as it is.”

Alison arched a brow before looking over his shoulder to Athan whom just shook his head. “Uh sure.” She smiled at Cody. “I wouldn’t mind at all. It’ll give me some entertainment.”

“Well I might as well head to my locker as well.” Chelsea said rubbing her head. “I mean I was so excited to see you Kendra that I totally forgot to head to my locker.”

“Well then go do that. I’ll be fine I’m not a baby ya know.” Kendra reassured her with a smile. “I’ll just check with you and Alison later.”

She smiled waving as she walked away. “See ya later then.”

“You can count on that.” Kendra called out to her.

“Finally we get some time alone.” She heard Athan say suddenly.

She looked back at him. “What do you mean?”

He crossed his arms. “We have a lot of catching up to do and we really can’t do it with them around.”

Kendra smiled as she turned to face him. “Oh I’m sure we can.”

“Yeah but those guys would probably ask a lot of questions and I’m not really in the mood to answer various questions.”

“What if I ask them?”

“Well I don’t mind if you ask them.” ‘And strangely that’s the truth.’ “Since you are my only friend in this school.”

“Hey what about Chelsea and Alison!?” Kendra asked offensively.

“Oh don’t get me wrong they are really great girls. It’s just I don’t know them all that well and I’m not really into telling people about myself unless I get to know them first.” He reassured her. “Maybe as the year goes on it’ll pass but for right now you’re the only person that will know.”

She suddenly blushed at his words and suddenly felt a chain starting to break as she smiled. “Aw I feel so special.”

Athan smirked. “Yeah you should be.” He now stood an inch in front of her. “Because the only people I tell anything about myself to are people that I know and trust.”

“You…you really trust me?” Kendra repeated softly feeling her stomach grow butterflies.

He nodded. “Yeah I do.”

“But we haven’t seen each other in ten years.” Kendra brought up looking at him oddly. “So how can you say that if we haven’t been around each other since then?”

He shrugged. “Don’t know I just have this feeling that I can trust you.”

“You just have this feeling that you can trust me?”

He nodded. “Yeah, even though I had a lot of friends back at my old school none of them ever gave me this feeling that I could trust them. But you, I do get that feeling. So just by knowing that I know I can trust you.”

Her cheeks redden at his words as he smiled. “And you don’t strike me as a person who would lie you hadn’t back then so I know you probably won’t even today.”

The chain stopped breaking and it glued back together. She smiled weakly. “Oh really? Well I’m not so sure about that.”

He took notice of her smile and started to get the feeling something was troubling her. He shook his head deciding not to get too into that right now.

He smiled. “So then,” He wrapped his arm around her shoulders loosely. He heard her gasp at his gesture. “Let’s start catching up.”

Kendra was a little startled by her old friend’s sudden action but smiled nonetheless. “Sure where would you like to start?”

“Well how about…”

“Hey Kendra will you hold up!?”

She jerked quickly pulling out of Athan’s hold to look behind them, Athan followed her stare. It was a red haired girl strolling over towards them. Her darker shaded red hair was tied up in a ponytail whipping back and forth behind her back as she walked. Her blue eyes pierced at Kendra and Kendra knew that she was mad about something.

Great more Carolyn drama.’ Kendra groaned in annoyance.

“Kendra you would not believe what my mother put me through this pass few weeks!” Carolyn called out angrily.

Kendra grunted. “Yep just as I thought.”

“Thought about what?” Athan questioned her before arching a brow. “Who is she anyway?”

She glanced up at him. “Carolyn Jackson and in short she’s a huge drama queen.”

Athan stared at her as Carolyn stomped up in front of them. “My mom is such a bitch I can’t stand her!”

Kendra sighed and tried to sound concern. “What happened now?”

“She yelled at me for all sorts of shit. Like using the phone too much which caused our phone bill to go up and how I take such long showers that it brings up our water bill. Well excuse me for having a life and she doesn’t!” Carolyn complained loudly.

Kendra narrowed her eyes slightly before letting out a loud sigh. “I’m sure you mom doesn’t mean to be hard on you it’s just…she’s trying to save money and you doing all that doesn’t really help save it.”

“Then she should get a better paying job!”

Kendra grunted angrily. “Well there aren’t a lot of high paying jobs out here.”

“Well then she should go back to dad!” Carolyn cried out. “If she’s having this much trouble handling money then she should just move back and marry dad again before we go too far under that nothing she can do can get us back on top!”

She huffed as she stomped pass them. Kendra shook her head. “Wow she sounds like a real brat.” She looked up at Athan as he eyed her. He moved his gaze back down at her. “She makes my brother look like a saint.”

“I guess she can’t really help it these days.”

“So then I take it her parents got a divorce?”

Kendra nodded. “Yeah just last year so things have been pretty hard on them.”

“Has she always acted like this? Or is she just like this because of the divorce?”

Kendra sighed. “Well she was a lot better in the past so I guess you could say…yeah this divorce is what transformed her into a spoiled brat.”

“Why? Is she trying to get back at her parents or something?”

She shrugged. “I honestly don’t know. Normally I try staying out of her life since even if I do give her advice she won’t take it so why bother trying if she won’t listen to me.”

“And she’s a…friend of yours’?” He eyed her not liking the idea of that.

“Sadly yes. But again she wasn’t like this until the divorce.” Kendra tried to defend.

Athan sighed softly. “Imagine how much things change when parents get a divorce.”

“Tell me about it.” Kendra looked up at the clock and groaned in disappointment. “We should probably head to class.”

“What?” Athan gaped out softly before looking up at the clock. “Aw man you have got to be kidding me?”

He heard Kendra giggle catching his attention. “Afraid so. But I wouldn’t worry about it too much.” She turned slightly smiling at him. “We have plenty of time to catch up.” She waved before walking away. “Catch ya later.”

Athan groaned suddenly feeling lonely. “Yeah catch you later.”

First hour had now begun and Athan was sitting at his table listening to the art teacher as she informed the class of what the class was in for.

He sighed in boredom. ‘Man I hate it when it’s the first day of school! It’s always so boring!

“Ah so we meet again.”

“Mm?” He hummed turning his gaze from the teacher to none other than Brittney. “Whoa!” He gaped out softly trying so hard not to shout. He pointed at her. “You’re in the class too!?”
Brittney giggled at his reaction. “How on earth did you not notice?”

“Because I didn’t.” He muttered. ‘And you’re truly not that appealing.

“Ah I see you’re still a little down about moving here aren’t you?” Brittney accused assuming that was the case. “I mean I can understand if you don’t I mean even I hate it here. It’s so boring.”

“Actually that’s not why.” He answered truthfully. “And I didn’t say I hated it here. I actually like it here a lot.” ‘Because Kendra’s here a friend who I have been dying to see for ten years.

He heard Brittney giggling. “Oh you.”
He groaned at her answer. ‘Oh great please don’t tell me she thinks she’s the reason why I like it here?

“Well then I’m glad you do like it here. Since I promise you having you here will be a blast.”

Athan grumbled. ‘Why am I getting the feeling that I will regret ever meeting her?

Kendra sat in the front row of her class waiting for the teacher to reappear in the room since they had to step out for a moment or two.

Well this year is starting out good. With Athan here school seems…less gloomy, at least to me anyway.’ She then groaned remembering their conversation earlier. ‘He even said he trusted me and that I’m the type to never lie.’ She shook her head. ‘Man is he wrong.’ She laid her chin on the table. ‘Is he ever so wrong ’cause I’ve been lying to practically everyone for almost part of my life.

“Oh ho look who’s in our class this year?”

She snapped out of her thoughts to see two older boys maybe about sixteen seventeen eighteen standing beside her. One had wavy shaggy brown hair and the other had a buzz cut blonde hair.

She groaned. ‘Great just what I need to bring me even more down.

“If it isn’t our favorite cry baby.” The brown haired boy said grabbing the back of her chair. “Came back for another year of torture? Man you must really love getting tortured if you are continuing to come back to this school.”

Kendra glared at him. ‘I’m only here because I have to you stupid jackass!’ “Leave me alone Trevor!” She ordered before realizing what just left her throat.

Trevor returned the glare. “Oh so you’re fighting back are you? You dare try ordering me around bitch?” He tightened his grip on the back of her chair.

Kendra immediately regretted ever opening her mouth in the first place because at that moment Trevor practically pulled the chair right from under her.

She yelped as she slammed on the ground. “Ow.” She winced quietly.

“You know the rule.” She heard Trevor speak up catching her attention. “Bitches don’t get the privilege to sit in the front row.”

She gasped watching him as he plopped down in her spot. He glared at her motioning his thumb to the back of the room. “Bitches sit in the way back.”
Kendra felt her eyes burn up feeling her voice push throat her throat. “But I was there first! You can’t just do that!”
“Oh but he can little cry baby.” She heard the other boy cut in. He leaned down towards her smirking evilly. “Because Trevor is the man and if you mess with the man you mess with his crew and you know who is crew is. Basically guys who can kick you little ass to Georgia.”

Kendra grumbled forcing herself to admit that he was right no matter how wrong it had seemed to her.

The blonde haired boy pointed this finger to the back of the room. “So back to the room you go Miss cry baby.”

Kendra had no choice but to accept defeat and grabbed her stuff and stomped to the back of the room. ‘Stupid fucking bastards! One of these days they will regret ever making my life a living hell!

She slammed her stuff on her new spot and glared at the two evil boys sitting way in the front. ‘Why should I even bother no matter what I do I can never get them to leave me alone especially with what happened two years ago.’ She sighed hiding her face in her arms. ‘My life just sucks.

END OF CHAPTER

-Phew- I’m finally done with this chapter. Hope you liked it. Okay now the next chapter…I’m not entirely sure what’s going to happen but of what I have gathered so far it’s basically when Athan starts realizing that something’s going on and starts seeing how her classmates treat Kendra. But that’s all I have right now. I have no idea when I’ll update again though I hope it will be soon.

See ya next time!
