Sinful Angel

Chapter 2

Damien strolled leisurely along the hallway, heading towards the food court, joined by Zane and Chase, all three walking in companionable silence before it was broken by the silent swish of the automatic doors that slid open to reveal the main cafeteria half-full with students. They made their way to the counter, where a woman was busy sorting out the straws and sugar packets. She looked up as they approached, smiling brightly as she asked, "Hello, what will you have?"

Giving her a brief smile in return, Damien said, "An Espresso with a touch of caramel, and two Lattes’, thanks."

"Be right up."

In a couple of minutes the drinks were laid before them, nodding their thanks, they picked up their drinks and made their way to an empty table by a window overlooking the academy grounds. Taking a sip of his latte, Chase glanced around before speaking up, "I'm guessing you both have Combat as your first lesson as well?"

"You're guessing right," said Zane, leaning back in his chair taking in his surroundings.

"Hey boys," breathed a feminine voice, causing all three to glance up. Before them stood three females smiling down at them in a flirtatious manner and recognition dawned upon the three males.

"Cathleen... girls," drawled Damien, stretching languidly in his seat; in reflex causing his black turtleneck top to stretch across his chest. He watched his girlfriend's eyes roamed appreciatively over his torso shooting him a sly smile as she raised her eyes to his.

"Welcome to the academy guys," she said as she took her seat next to Damien. She leaned over, kissing him lightly before settling back in her seat with her cup of coffee. Chase wrapped an arm around Victoria's waist as she sat down, whilst Zane placed his arm over the chair where Kerri sat, she shot him a small smile in response.

"I'm glad you’re attending Seventh Sanctum, now at least we can spend more time together," said Kerri. Zane gave her a small smirk, leaning down to capture her lips in a heated kiss. Coming up for air, he asked, "So which group are you three in?"

"We're in Trinity, it's a shame we're not together," replied Victoria.

"How do you figure?" asked Chase.

"There's a list in your team's quarters with a list of who's in your teams, we checked and know that you aren't with us," said Victoria.

"I'm sure though that we will be in some classes," said Cathleen, looking over at the others. "That reminds me, it’s nearly time for our combat class. Where are you off to now?"

"Looks like we've found one class we're together in," commented Damien.

"You have combat as well?" she queried, turning to Damien. "Class C9?"

When he replied in an affirmative, she smiled. "Well let's go, we'll show you to the class."

The class began promptly at nine a.m. the students’ loud voices quietening to hush whispers before they too died down to pin drop silence as two teachers made their entrance. Both male, stood side by side surveying the class with intensity made to make the recipient uncomfortable if under their direct gaze. "My name is Heath and this is Donovan, you may refer to us as sir or professor, which ever suits you," said the man now known as Professor Heath.

"Formalities out of the way, this is what we expect from all of you. In combat you will be pushed to the limit and will be challenged in every possible way," said Professor Donovan, in a no nonsense tone. "We expect you all to be on time for class, we do not tolerate tardiness and under performance. If you are late, there must be a valid reason otherwise you will be subjected to punishment in form of running laps or any other form we see fit."

"During lessons, you are to listen when given instructions and follow them in the correct manner. Be expected to receive assessments in all your classes at the end of the term; a notion which I'm sure you are all familiar with," informed Prof. Heath. Looking at Donovan he nodded, indicating that the class can now be started, before turning back to the students.

"Now that all has been said and done, welcome to Combat. We will be having short sparring matches between a couple we choose, however combat is not all hand to hand, you may use your powers but only to disarm your opponents and not for harm, be sure that you will be suspended if you cause harm to any of your classmates. The only time where you will be using your power to the full extent is during field work and when it comes to that you will be divided into groups of six. You will find out more about this as we go along, but the rules remain the same during field work; you will only be using your powers to work as a team you will be divided into, in order to enhance them," he explained.

Professor Donovan took over, speaking aloud, "I'm going to divide the class in two, one half will be go with Prof. Heath, and the other half will come with me. One from both groups will step up and spar, the first to land their opponent on the mat wins a point for their team, or if you step off the mat during any time of the match your challenger gets the point. After both lists have been read out; if I've called your name out you will move to the right hand side of the arena and if Prof. Heath has called your name out you will move to the left side of the arena. Keith, Max, Rachel, summer..."

The list continued, until the last three of the twelve names were called. "Amber, Amethyst and Raven, you twelve will be on my team."

"The rest of you listen up, if your names haven't been called out, after the end of my list then raise your hand," instructed Prof. Heath. "Louise, Cathleen, Victoria, Kerri, Jason, Jordan, Matt, Kari, Hannah, Chase, Zane and Damien. You all are on my team, now is there anyone's name not called out?"

Seeing as no raised hands, he said, "You may now move to the respective sides appointed to your team."

Rising from their seats, the students moved to the place allocated to them, Zane, Chase and Damien following behind their group, along with Cathleen and her friends who fell in step slightly ahead of them, chatting animatedly about the upcoming sparring matches. "We know that our team will win seeing as we have the best fighters in our group," Victoria boasted, glancing over her shoulder at the boys, tossing them a teasing wink.

The guys smirked; Chase raised an eyebrow saying, "Glad to know you girls have faith in your boyfriends."

"You know we always do," she remarked, tossing her hair over her shoulder as she giggled. They came to a stop as they reached their end of the arena, the boys leaned against the wall, and watching and listening as their teachers explained the rules once last time as the first pair took up their positions for their sparring match. Damien propped his right foot against the wall, crossing his arms over his chest as he looked across the fifteen metre distance at the other team; his gaze scanned the students standing watching the match before his eyes froze on a figure standing against the wall, with two others on either side of her. He could tell that all three were girls by their postures and most obviously with the way they were dressed. As if she could feel his gaze, the female in the middle tilted her head in his direction pinpointing him almost immediately; he could feel rather than see her raising her eyebrow in question, studying him all the while silently daring him to look away. He smirked inwardly accepting the challenge she presented, now it depended on the person who broke the contact first. He felt someone nudge him, forcing him to break the eye contact, as he looked down to see his girlfriend smiling up at him; he grimly realised that he had lost the challenge, albeit unwillingly. He raised a brow in question at his girlfriend, who simply grinned turning around to lean against him and he unconsciously raised a hand to her hip, before looking up back to the female shrouded in the shadows to find her conversing quietly with her friends. He snapped to attention as he heard Zane's name being called out, he watched as his friend walked up to the exercise mat standing in front of his opponent who he dimly realised was Max Landon, one of his distant friends.

Zane smirked at Max who playfully returned it. They'd been in this position before, so it would come as no surprise if she was to walk away, the winner. Both took up their stances, Max leaned back on his right leg, his left stretched out in the front and his hands closed into fists bent at the elbows; he watched Zane follow his stance the only difference with his left palm was faced outwards and his right hand a fist by his chest. Both watched the other to see who would move first, seeing that Zane wasn't going to make the first attack, Max ran at him with speed moving his right arm back whilst running; then bringing it back towards Zane with full force in a punch towards his face. Just at the last second Zane bent on his knees as he ducked, using his left hand as balance, he swung out his right leg and connected with Max's ankle as he spun on his left foot and hand, Max lost his balance and fell back on the mat as Zane stood up with nonchalance. "Winner, Zane Hunter," called out Prof. Donovan.

Zane stretched his hand out to lift Max up; they nodded at each other before walking back to their respective teammates. "Nicely done," commented Chase.

Zane simply nodded before retaking his position on the wall, his eyes trained forward looking at the next trial already underway; he saw it was Chase's girlfriend Victoria up against another girl name Megan. In five minutes it ended with Victoria as the victor. Few more matches went by before Cathleen was called up and to the surprise of most she was going head to head against a guy named Keith.

Keith turned to look at the teachers, the question evident as he voiced it, "Sir, are you serious?"

Prof. Heath replied, "We've been pairing you all up against people who we think are much more of a challenge to you. If Cathleen is being paired up to a guy, it's because we think her abilities can match that of yours. Understood?"

When Keith nodded, he said, "Okay, when you're ready; go for it."

The match lasted only three minutes, the outcome was predicted by most, and Cathleen was on her back with Keith standing above her as the clear winner. As Cathleen walked back to her team, Damien wrapped his arm around her shoulders as she leaned into him pouting. "Don't worry, Keith is good at combat and besides you did well against him."

She smiled, leaning up to give him a peck on the lips. "Well, I'm glad that you won, you and the guys are really good at fighting, no one can stand up against you for long," she complimented him.

Damien smiled to himself, he and Chase had also come out as victors in their fights, they swept out their opponents legs just as Zane had done, and the fight had hardly lasted a minute. They looked up as Matt was called up along with Amber from the other team; Damien looked at Zane and Chase. All three sent amused glances to each other then looked back at the combat.

Amber smirked inwardly as she stood against her opponent; she knew that the rest aside from her friends were thinking that she was also going to lose against the guy. Time to prove them wrong, she thought to herself. She took up her stance, her left leg in front of her right, she stood casually with her arms crossed against her chest, and when Prof. Heath, gave the go ahead, she waited as her rival went on the offence, as he went to punch her right shoulder she ducked under and came to stand beside the outstretched arm. She grabbed hold of his wrist twisting his arm behind him as she hooked her leg on the back of his knees; she stopped as he caught her eye, then smiling, she swept her foot across the back of his knees resulting in him loosing balance and ending up sprawled on his back on the mat.

Stepping back she once again crossed her arms tilting her head to the side at the Professor as he announced the winner, nodding once she gave Matt another smile before turning around and walking off to her side.

The class stood in silence and slight awe as they watched a female take down a male. As Amethyst was called up against Jason, most looked on in earnest wanting to witness hopefully another interesting battle. She also took up a casual battle stance her arms behind her back, head tilted to the left as she took in the challenger before her. "Good luck," said Jason.

She graced him with a small smile as she returned the comment. She changed her stance to defence as soon as Jason attacked, once again with the punches, however she was slightly surprised at the speed as she dodged left, then right and ducking as he came with the frontal assault. As he crouched down in order to sweep her legs out from under her she cart wheeled backwards twice before landing on her feet, few metres away from him, she waited as he came running towards her and watched as he got more momentum with each second. As soon as he was a metre away from her, she moved in a slight sprint before bending forwards on both her hands, bending at the elbows then she pushed off from the mat her body flipping over Jason in a front handspring. She landed on both feet before pivoting on her left foot as her right connected with Jason's back pushing him off the mat; she finished her pivot bringing her leg to rest beside her left one in one casual move. Once declared the victor she gave Jason a slight nod as she walked past him to her friends who she knew would be smirking.

"Last match, Raven versus Jordan," announced Prof. Donovan.

Damien recognised her from the little contest they had, he watched as she moved with lithe movements on to the mat, she once again caught his stare and this time he could see as subtly raised an eyebrow at him, he still couldn't however see her eyes but he knew they would contain a little amusement. She gave the slightest of indication that she was ready. Damien, Zane and Chase watched on in interest, they wouldn't be surprised if she won this match, seeing as three girls seemed to be friends and their fighting styles quite similar to one another.

They watched as Jordan took off in a run before crouching down in a slide tackle, which Raven avoided by bending her knees and jumping up in a front flip, twisting hundred-and-eighty degrees in the air before landing on her feet behind Jordan; who quickly jumped up before coming at her again this time with a series of punches causing Raven to block each one with her hands. She kept moving backwards with each assault, just as she was coming near to the edge of the mat, she ducked under Jordan's arm and with speed, straightened her left leg up in front of her and then quickly struck down on Jordan's back in an axe kick, causing him to tumble forward off the mat and on his front. He turned on his back staring up at her, dazed and with a hint of respect in his eyes; she gave a whisper of a smile in understanding and stretched her hand out to help him up. "Good fight," she said, before turning on her heel and walking off.

"A great lesson, well done all of you, you've all sparred really well. However, the end result as you know, Prof. Donovan's team has one with seven consecutive wins, commiserations to my team. This was just to test your level of agility, understanding of combat and what level you are fighting at and you will be taught other techniques that you can use for self-defence. That's all for today, you may leave," said Prof. Heath.

"We'll see you boys later," said Kerri, reaching up to kiss Zane, as the other two also kissed their boyfriends. "Our next class starts in five minutes."

They started walking off before Cathleen stopped, turning around to ask, "When do you have your break?"

"It's at twelve," answered Chase. Nodding, the girls walked off down the corridor.

"That was interesting, to say the least," expressed Zane, turning his head to the class they had recently vacated. Damien and Chase also followed his gaze, thinking along the same lines.

"Neither Jordan, Matt or Jason is weak when it comes to combat, we've all been taught by the best," uttered Chase.

"Yet the girls managed to take them down easily," Damien put in, his eyes darkened in thought. Just as they were ready to walk off to their class, they froze in place as the three females walked out, one by one, however this time the one known as Raven had a cloak around her and her hood covering her face from view. The girls were talking amongst themselves before sensing their presence and falling silent as they watched the three men in front of them, warily.

"Can we help you?" asked the girl with dark auburn hair, who their recognised as Amber. Her name seemed to be derived from her eyes which were also amber coloured, a cautious look in her eyes as they were trained on the guys.

Shaking his head, Chase replied, "No."

"Well then, could you move?" she countered. "You’re blocking the way if you haven't realised."

"A please would be nice, we don't respond well to demands," retorted Chase, shooting her a smirk.

Glaring daggers, she ground out, "Could you please move, you are blocking the way."

"Looks like someone's PMS-ing," Zane’s monotone came from behind Chase, who grinned in response.

He watched along with the other two as the young woman with hair colour of silver mist, and intense amethyst eyes stepped forward, glaring as she retaliated in the same tone as Zane used, "Looks like someone's being a royal pain."

She crossed her arms, as she leaned back on her right leg, her expression sardonic. "If I recall I wasn't speaking to you," was the reply.

"And as I recall you were being quite rude to my friend and I don't take crap being dished out to me or my friends a light matter."

"You wouldn't," drawled Zane, "Being the uptight (censor) you are."

"Oh?" she countered, raising an eyebrow in defiance. "And how exactly did you arrive to that conclusion, because if I remember correctly, we've never met until recently. So don't judge what and who you don't know. Until the next time - which I sincerely hope never arrives otherwise it'd be hazardous to your health. Bye!"

With that said the three young women disappeared as the violet mist which surrounded them died down to reveal an empty passage. Damien inclined his head to his friends. "Had your fun?" he asked, his tone sarcastic.

"Oh shut up," muttered Zane, rolling his eyes at Damien as they made their way to their next class.

"Don't blame me if he turns up missing the next day," seethed Amethyst, her eyes spitting fire at the board she was currently staring at so intently. Raven sighed inwardly, voicing for the umpteenth time, "We won't."

"The nerve of him, calling me a - argh!" she whispered viciously, trying not to draw any attention towards her. From the image she presented, Raven had a feeling that wouldn't end well, as people near them watched with fascination as she muttered curses under her breath.

Amber and Raven shared a glance, before Raven closed her eyes in concentration, sending waves of calms towards her distressed friend. She opened her eyes slowly, glancing at Amethyst to see that she had finally started calming down. "Myst, relax it's not as if his opinion matters. As you said, he doesn't know you so don't give him the satisfaction of getting you riled up," Raven stated, her tone flat as she sat back in her seat, her stance lazy and uncaring.

Amethyst let her eyes drift close, exhaling deeply and slowly, she whispered, "I know."

"Oh and Myst," Amber called out, turning her head to look at her friend, once she had her friend's attention she smiled in gratitude. "Thanks."

"No problem."

Facing the front of the auditorium, Raven smiled to herself mentally shaking her head at girls' antics. She watched unseeingly as the teacher known as Ms.Craft entered and began to introduce herself to the boys half of the class. Raven's thoughts however were occupied by the one person she had caught staring at her during combat practice. She didn't know why but she had a feeling there was more to Damien; as he was introduced before his sparring match, she just couldn't put a finger on it. His aura was powerful she had felt it radiating from him, nearly overwhelming her in the process. His eyes; although she had pinpointed his gaze during the class, were shielded from view by sunglasses. Hmm, wonder what it is that you're hiding, thought Raven, before focusing back on her Remedial Enchantment class.

Later in the evening around seven o'clock, the girls were seated in the dining room of the Academy, their lessons for the day had finished two hours ago, luckily for them Mondays would be surprisingly good considering they only have three classes.

"If one more guy comes to ask me out, I'm going to punch him," groaned Amber. The two chuckled at her friend's anguish, earning them a glare. "Very funny, keep laughing at my expense and then we'll see who is laughing when I set you both up on a blind date."

"Oh come on, we know you wouldn't do that," stated Amethyst.

"Coz if you did, you know the consequences will be dire," finished Raven. Amber simply rolled her eyes heaven ward.

"With friends like you two, who needs enemies?" she whispered aloud in annoyance.

Amethyst laughed, poking Amber in her side causing her to yelp and scowl. "We're not that bad," she protested.

"No," said Amber, shaking her head. "You're worse."

"We feel the love," Raven said dryly. "It's radiating off of you in torrents."

Amber narrowed her eyes. "Oh shut up," she mumbled, and then grinned as Raven gave her a small smile. No doubt about it, they tease each other and make fun of one another, yet they always knew the other two always have their back whenever the need arises.

"If you two are done with dinner, shall we make our way back to our dorm?" asked Raven.

Rising they made their way to their quarters chatting amiably about one thing or the other, as the entrance door to the main room of their quarters slid open; they came to an abrupt stop. "Oh, hell no!"

That's it for now. This took me a whole week to write, I just couldn't seem to come up with what to write, but I hope this was enjoyable to read. Please leave a review, even if it's only one word. You'll be forever appreciated.
