Enshrouded by the shadows
Amidst the flickering lights.
Lighting my way,
They slowly dim, one by one.

Silence ensues,
As I hear my echoing footsteps.
The stars shine down,
Foretelling a world yet to be seen.

Stopping in my tracks,
To watch them shine,
I wish everything I wanted
Could always be mine.

Stars, shine your brightest.
Give me hope to continue
Through this endless night
And reach that glowing day.

When I resume walking,
The coldness of my environs
Strikes my heart, deep inside.
Does this mean I'm still alive?

Giving up on the hope
Of feeling anything pleasant,
I walk on, despite this aching heart.
Despite all the thoughts that plague me.

Stripping the fear
Stripping the angst
From this shriveled mind,
I move on without a sound.

Suddenly, a ray of sunlight
Peaks above the horizon,
Warming this frozen heart.
Can it melt the ice?

A smile begins to form
As I continue my walk.
Then the bell tolls
And all at once, the sun vanishes.

The day has passed,
The depression resumes.
Devils within angel's masks
Strike pain into this life.

A sigh escapes as the night begins.
A reprieve from the constant struggles.
My eyes close, and all is silent.
All is calm...All is peace.
