There was haze in the sky
and I let out a tentative sneeze.
It was a day of baby blue
spread across the upper lights.
I felt for some sort of breath of air,
amazed by the warm breeze
and unnatural chill beneath my skin.
The second hand on my watch
twitched to a stop,
unsure if to continue or not.
My fingers tapped impatiently as
bird after bird took to the sky.
The sun burned a hole through atmosphere
and soul, smiling at the comfortable heat.
I shivered in the cold.
The sky was filled with flapping wings,
those of innocent birds,
convinced that today was the start of spring.
