The Greatest Truth

By Reggie

2.27.2008

Today I heard an old, old story

about the man from heaven

who was born of a virgin

and would die a wondrous victory

That man, Jesus, the Christ is His name

came to die and save His own from their sins

extending to the world grace and salvation

so that in the end God would receive all the fame

Many, however, didn't receive Him

the light they rejected and the Way they refused

the only hope of change and new life they exchanged

strictly for the life they desired which leaves them condemned

Jesus claimed to be the only Truth, Life, and Way

that no one can get to the Father except through Him

that all who dare to pass to heaven through other means

are thieves and unbelievers, for their own sins they shall pay

With all He said, one thing was sure

"Destroy this temple and I'll raise it again in three days"

going to die was His motive

so suffering, indeed, He would endure

Then one day, all that He said came to pass

bruised for our iniquities, marked for our transgressions

the Passover Lamb He became on that day

from Hosanna to crucify Him, God accomplished His purpose at last

Bleeding from head to toe, His trembling voice shouted

"My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?"

His Father turned away from His Son

But pleased to smite Him, righteousness is all that was counted

Pain and agony Jesus suffered, hanging and dying

two thieves hang beside him

one mocked him, the other sought Paradise from Him

but finally His purpose done, His Spirit to His Father it went flying

Immediately, that bloody, dying, savior was placed in a tomb

His disciples ran and fled to their homes, weeping and wailing

the so-called Lord of glory was now gone and placed in a grave

but they forgot that end of the story would come very soon

Three days the earth shook and the pit opened it's mouth

lights from heaven came to the earth

shook up soldiers and comforted two women

One particular woman, in tears, looked to the south

Saw the gardener, she thought, and ran to His feet

in tears she plead for the body of her savior

but at the sound of her name her heart lept in joy

There He was, Jesus the Christ, death He did defeat

Finally commissioning His disciples to preach the gospel

to all the world they were to go

teaching, baptizing, and making disciples

the world indeed would resist, no kindly but hostile

Jesus ascended into heaven with all power and glory

leaving behind man with gifts

to teach and equip the saints

to build up the church with this old, old story

Know this story and be warned

that all who reject the truth

life they will lose

and their souls will be scorned

Christ was to save you from this

from fire and hell

by confessing your sin

or else own it at your own risk

So, give all glory to God Most High

For all He's done from glory

Sending a way for us to get by

that in Christ all is for us, for me

The Lord calls all to repent and be holy

to trust in Christ and be spared

He will lead us to heaven slowly

but even before the end, justification towards us He already declared

Forgiveness of sins He has offered us

as there is no other way to ride of our stain

no works or deeds can set us free

except all that Christ did which is our only refuge

All this can be found in God's Holy Word

that precious document of old

which has no standing rival

Read it, believe it, and obey it, that great Holy Bible

Heaven and earth will pass away but His Words will not

no matter what you say or what you do

His words are true and real

Perfect before God He will surely leave us without a spot

So if you believe this, you are born again

rejoice for your name is in heaven

forever you are with God and the redeemed

but if not, then hurry, for He is coming quickly, again
