The Sounds of a Winter Night
From the eerie creaks in a backwards phrase
to the subtle sounds of darkened hallways;
to midnight angels and towering trees,
both trumpeting dawn with an angry breeze;
to gregarious marigolds that tell
of the hidden sun, and the frozen well;
to homemade allures on the morning stove
from the curling bark of a winter grove;
to a window stained in the chill of ice
scraped by the bark, and the scuttling mice.
These are pleasant sounds for my winter’s night
telling me that, Yes; everything is right.
