New Generation

Chapter 1

The gods and goddesses of Mount Olympus are dying. They gave their powers up to fourteen mortals. Now they have to master their new powers and destroy whatever killed the old generation. All they know is high school will never be the same again.

"Zeus has called a meeting! Meeting!" Yelled Hermes while flying around. Artemis looked up at the flying God. She scowled and lowered her bow, the stag she had been hunting sprinted away.

"Fine, I'm coming." She grumbled and followed him to the meeting room where all the other gods and goddesses were assembled. When she settled into her chair Zeus stood.

"I have grave and importan-" He was cut off and the ground started rumbling and shaking. The floor opened up in one spot and Hades appeared. Poseidon stood up, brandishing his trident.

"You have no place here." He growled to his brother.

"Poseidon, I called him because he needs to hear this as much as we do." Zeus said calmly. Everybody turned to face them, mouths open in shock.

"I also brought Miss Hearth along." Hades pulled Hestia out from behind him.

"Good, now let's continue. This news is both frightening and unimaginable." Zeus started, looking everyone in the eye. "We are dying." Shouts and gasps filled the council room.

"But how?!" Exclaimed Hephaestus.

"I can't be dying!" Yelled Ares angrily.

"Quiet!" Roared Zeus.

"There must be an explanation. Athena, come here." Hera commanded. The goddess clad in armor stood up and bowed in front of Hera.

"Yes majesty?" She asked.

"Do you have any wisdom or insight to this untimely news?" The queen of the gods asked impatiently.

"I am sorry Lady Hera, but no." Athena said before standing and returning to her seat.

"Apollo!" Hera called. The sun god was instantly at her feet.

"Were there any prophecies that for told this?" She asked.

"No, my queen. I never knew about this until now." Apollo replied before going back to his seat. Then Aphrodite screamed.

"What is the matter?" Asked Zeus, very alarmed.

"I-I have...a zit!" She screamed, pointing tearfully at a red spot on her face. Artemis and Athena stifled their laughs and the goddess of beauty glared at them.

"Me having a zit is like you not being able to fight," She pointed at Athena, "and you not being able to work that bow of yours." She pointed at Artemis.

"But how hic can she have a hic blemish if she's a god-hic-dess? Plus the hic goddess of beauty hic?" Asked Dionysus, hiccuping from drinking too much wine.

"We are dying, so there for we are losing our immortality and powers." Zeus replied.

"So are we going to turn into mortals?" Demeter asked.

"No," Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, "we are going to turn into dust." The council room burst into shouting and Hestia covered her ears in discomfort; she hated fights.

"Well what do we do, brother?" Hades demanded.

"We give our powers away to mortals, and hope they can defeat this unknown evil and assume their rightful places on Mount Olympus." Zeus replied.

"What?!" Hera exclaimed. "You expect me to give my immortality to a mere mortal?!"

"Yes, why would we do that?" Asked Hermes.

"So this world won't sink into darkness and the human race doesn't run wild."

"I wouldn't mind the darkness part." Hades muttered, but then everybody glared at him. "Kidding, I'm kidding."

"So who do we give our powers to?" Athena asked.

"Whoever you choose." Suddenly orbs appeared in front of each god and goddess. "Use these to locate the human you choose."

They all nodded and looked into their orbs.

A girl with pale skin and black hair was walking on a trail in the forest. She held a bow in one hand and had a quiver strapped across her chest. Her silver eyes caught sight of her target and she quickly nocked the bow. Then she pulled back the string, and let the arrow fly...

He was practically flying down the track. His black hair was plastered back by the wind and he was several lengths ahead of the other runners. A few more feet and he would pass the finish line...

She saw the boy fall, his papers flying everywhere. Instantly she ran up and helped him gather the papers up. Once he had all his papers back he made a comment about her being really nice...

Clack! Clack clack! Beep! The girl had jabbed the tip of her fencing sword right in the right spot: she had won the tournament. Now all she had to do was get to art class on time...

While playing his lyre he looked around. His tan skin glowed and his hair blond hair shone brightly in the sunlight. Unlike his twin sister, he loved the sunlight...

Everyone was hurrying to get out of his way. Nobody crossed his path because nobody ever dared mess with him. They never dared, because he was like king of the school...

They were cheering him on as he swam his last lap around the pool. This was why he was the captain of the swim team, because he swam like a fish. Like he ruled the water...

She glared at everyone as she walked the halls, her clique assembling in a V behind her. They were trying to act as confident as she was, glaring at their classmates because they had better status. But nobody had a higher popularity status than her...

Bang bang bang! The sounds of the metal shop rang around him. He smiled; music to his ears. This was his favorite class, because he was at his best when he was working with metal...

Her plants were growing faster than anybody else's. The teacher sometimes said she had a green thumb. She was always good with plants and animals, anything that had to do with agriculture...

Raising the bottle to his mouth took another long drink then started hiccuping. He never cared if he was drinking on school campus. Besides, it was only some wine he had snitched from his parents' kitchen...

Either they looked away or gazed in awe because she was radiantly gorgeous. Flawless skin, an angel's face, and she practically glowed with beauty...

The javelin flew gracefully through the air, sticking itself in the ground. A couple of his friends gave him high fives and they moved on to compete in the other competitions. He stayed there, his blood pumping through his veins with the adrenaline. The violence...

He stayed in the shade of the tree, watching other people walk around and socialize. He never bothered with that sort of thing, he would always prefer death...

"Have you all chosen?" Asked Zeus. When everybody nodded then he stood up.

"This has been a great lifetime with you all, but now we must leave for the next generation. Quickly now, grant your powers to the mortal of your choice!" He commanded.

They all closed their eyes and raised their hands to their orbs. Blinding light filled the council room and then vanished. Where each god or goddess was lay a pile of dust; it was up to the new generation now.
