The Last Lesson I never Learned

I was told to beware of the shadows

That Fateful night

We had a dance

Death and I

Were required to attend

It was a masquerade

Nobody knew who was who

Before it started

I was asked to dance

Not knowing what else to do

I accepted

I have been called a

Personification

Of Fate

Though how

I know not

The music was not

What he heard

The song was from the

Eighties

And we waltzed

I thought it was to last

Through one song

Yet when the song

Changed

We carried on

It lasted to the last song

Came on

It was a long song

Over six minutes long

I suddenly became aware

That he was heading

For the shadows

I gasped and tried

To pull away

But his grip was tight

We got closer

To the shadowy

Corner

The song was halfway finished

His grip tightened

I still hadn’t figured out

Who it was

I looked up

Past all seven feet of him and

Into his lovely face

He asked me to accept

That it was time

For the marriage

Of Fate

And Death

I said no.

It wasn’t

He got angry

And staring into

His eyes

I realized

He was Death

And thus began

The Last Lesson I never Learned

Later, it was whispered

When the dancers had quit

A body was found in a

Shadowy corner

And they muttered

Tis the girl that danced with Death
