synonymous

i lay with you on the grass last night
we looked at the moon in the stars in the sky
and the fields full of fireflies
they couldn't match what i saw of your mind

you took me down to the bay with the boats
we lay on deck and we wiggled our toes
and i saw those fairy lights strung up high

we grabbed our bags and ran for miles
i'd call you beautiful but i don't know how

while sand filled the silence between the streets

what to say

you wrote your letter to me like a suicide note
i woke up with it under my pillow
and the sheets filled with feathers

i wish i could call you special but
it's far too normal a word for someone who loves me
all the symphonies can't play our melody
so my heart sings louder than we'll ever need
and i just can't find the right synonym
so i guess i'll just stick to the words i know
i want you to stay because i'll never go
and i can't figure why anybody would need
anyone else but you
