Lying here with you

My head on your chest;

Rising and falling

With every beat of your heart

Every intake of breath.

Looking up into your beautifully serene face

Beautiful as the dawn,

That slowly inches in through the window;

Casting a light on your face,

And your hands

Encircled around me

Loving and protective

Holding me close,

Just where I want to be.

The heat of your touch

Warming me more than the blankets

Covering both our bodies.

Curling up closer to you,

My head on your heart

My hand on your chest.

Closing my eyes

And feeling the light of dawn

Creeping up to warm my face,

And to light your peaceful features.

This moment of bliss

This smallest second of ecstasy

I’ve preserved now in my memory

To keep alive for all eternity.

The slightest shift of motion,

And there’s a new light shining down on me.

Not the soft glow of dawn

Or the bright light of day,

But the radiance of your smile

And the light of love in your eyes.

A smile of my own

As your hands enclose me tighter,

Holding me close,

Keeping me safe.

Your lips on my head,

Whispering sweetly.

My hands in your hair,

Bringing you closer.

Inhaling deeply,

It’s love that’s in the air;

Breathing warmth onto us,

Sparking this moment of passion.

Our eyes finally meet

An instant before our lips

But I hear myself whisper to you

And another smile lights up your face.

As you hold me close again.

Our chests touching,

Rising and falling

With every beat of our hearts

Every intake of breath.
