-She Lives-

She said I’m going to live when
They found the malignant tumour -
ironically innocent in appearance,
Like an egg protruding from a glossy snow white nest,
she said I’m going to live.

She said I’m going to live come
Chemo, come futile attempts
remove it all, unintentionally
removing her dignity, she said
I’m going to live.

Oh she said I’m going to live
When she looked in the mirror,
Half a woman in her own eyes,
Naked when dressed because
They could see her plight strongly swaddled in optimism.
When she said goodbye to bathing suits
And nudity in public change rooms,
she said I’m going to live.

And when he held her hand, when
he held her hand as she became this,
Like a newborn protruding from a glossy snow white nest,
Hairless, wordless, fearful but claiming fearlessness, she said
I’m going to live.

And she lives.
She lives on.

May all of those who have fallen victim to breast cancer or any kind of cancer for that matter live on. We will never forget your strength, your beauty, you. 3
