This isn't a place for poetry
townies and students
who stayed on for the summer
baseball on the TV
is this the best I could find
There's no poetry here
80's pop
and low-cut tip magnet tops
I'm just desperate to scrawl
something across a page
I want to look
more earnest than a drunk
like I'm drawing inspiration
from the air
but there's no poetry here
or maybe I just don't see it
poetry in the hands of everyone
here
maybe they're squelching it out
so they don't start crying
maybe that's what I'm doing
or maybe I'm so far out of the
poet's game
anymore that I wouldn't know
poetry if it stabbed me
no, it couldn't be that
