Lime Light

In our direction, they stare

With disapproving eyes,

Looking up at me

From the ground.

An imaginary pedestal

Has been set up for me.

An unrealistic standard.

There they left you

In the dirt.

I did not ask for this favor

Yet it’s left you with a price.

One which you were forced to pay

With silent submission

And merciless exile.

You stand blinded

In the glitter of virtue

While I bask in its purity,

Questioning why I sentenced myself

To this unfavorable fatality.

But more over

How is it that

The forsaken lion

Fell in love with

A pretentious lamb.

I did not deserve your devotion

But you gave me your mind blindly

With only one wish,

"If loving me is social suicide

Then baby, save yourself

I’m not worth your death"

But I confess,

I’d rather die by his side

Then live a Hollywood dream

Utterly lonely.

With that I lay to rest

All my good fortune

And popularity

For you,

My disgraceful paramour.
