Take my advice, don’t hurry.
Don’t focus completely on getting older.
Don’t wish for it to go faster
Because you will miss this.
-
Steep yourself in childhood.
Stretch the years as long as possible,
Revel in the lesser responsibilities.
When it’s gone, you’ll want it back.
-
Relish every bully, every asshole teacher.
Glorify every moment with your friends
Rejoice in every tear, whether sad or happy.
All this is so unimaginably fleeting.
-
Adulthood ends summer for good.
Bills, work, family, and obligations
Clutter your life totally and without memories,
Your heart forgets peace in the frenzy.
-
So cling to childhood treasures, young one
They’ll disappear quicker than you think
And before you know it, ten years pass by
And you’ve lost who you used to be.
This is just something I wrote with my little sister in mind. She's sixteen and she just can't wait to hit adulthood because she doesn't understand how much adulthood really sucks. Sure, things change in some ways, but it's still the same bullshit, only there's more of it and when you get out of high school and live on your own, you have to do it completely alone without anyone to help you. I don't think she realises how great she's got it at the moment.
Anyway, please review.
