Secret

Stumbling through moonlit shadows
Hiding from hate filled voices
He cowered in a dim corner
From angered words that did command;
The world turned a blind eye
To the pain he endured daily,
He cried a plea for acceptance
A failed effort, his words unheard.

His mirror forced him to smile
Whilst everyone else shot a frown
His happiness only found misery
Should he leave it all behind?
His peers all had the wrong impression
In truth’s twisted game of Chinese whispers,
His was the voice that cried to be heard.

Night closed in, he convinced himself,
Tomorrow is another day,’
But it was déjà vu, fear tormented him
Silver stitching had sewn his lips;
Few people cherished his secret,
Many more would just assume,
He wished for truth but granted a lie.

His chosen path was unforgiven
By the people silenced by his words,
He’d endured pain and endured hurt
Keeping his secret silent nearly had him convinced,
Yet his mind’s voice ordered he speak,
His heart’s orchestral notes could not be denied.

Stories broadcast all over the world
Showed those like him destroyed out of hate;
They met their demise without a reason,
Caused him suffering, an unwanted pain,
His individual was feared; explanations ignored
By a world serenely ignorant.

It was his greatest fear and darkest secret
To be unaccepted by those afraid to care
He locked his secret in a dark chest of wonders
Hid the key until the world would accept;
He defined himself; there’d be no more tears
There’d be no more blood and no more fears.
