Heartbeat

I’ve sung a song so many times
Where the chorus strings
Echo heartbreak;
The lyric always painting a story
Yet the poet forgetting the meaning.

I’ve told the truth time and time again
Tried to listen to my own advice
Only to be fooled
By the very creation
To which I gave life.

My heart is empty,
beating in a black void
And every star that falls
Sits forgotten in the dreamer’s hand;
Does it try to live when the light is out?

Trapped in the illusion of happiness
The possibility of being loved
Has its own illusion, eluding me
Fooling my mind, giving false hope;
Nothing but a straight line of black
Has the power to capture my heartbeat.
