The Mansion of Dreams
“Remember the mansion of crumbling stone?
The mansion of dust and empty throne?
Where no one dwells, and no one knows
Who built this place where I now go
The walls were grey like dusty floor
There silence ruled and death bestowed
A peace unscattered, long and still
For empty, lifeless dreams here dwell
Inside the mansion of dreams and mind
I found the chamber of long-lost kind
Inside the chamber those hidden stairs
Hidden behind all earthly cares
I knew I should just turn away
Never step behind that stay
For under dreams; what I might find?
I did not know; ‘twas not my mind
Though warning thoughts my head had filled
I went and to the stairs I stepped
Then under there that mansion proud
The hallway silent, dark I found
I looked around that hallway there;
Behind me long and empty stair
Around me walls with carvings faint
Of mosaics the floor was made
I did not move; I was in fear
This place was old, it was so clear
Unknown, old and scary, dark
And what I see? One single spark
That spark was how it all begun
Just a spark! I will not run!
But flames then flashed up through the floor
That simple spark so soon was more
Now hallways burning where I looked
Through scorching heat my step I took
The mosaics now flaming red
I couldn’t turn; my path was set
I walked there to the maze of halls
Through flames and heat inside those walls
Why? That I might never know
This was a dream; I had to go”
