There is a reason I am writing Twilight, and it probably isn’t the reason I ought to be.

There is a story I am currently writing which is very…solid. The pacing is careful, the writing is very considered, and I love that story a good deal. But there are certain difficulties associated with that story, in the way that there are certain difficulties associated with navigating a minefield. A single wrong step can screw everything up. As a way of decompressing, I am writing Twilight.

This is not to suggest that Twilight is not meant to be a serious—or at least relatively serious—story, or that I am not paying any particular attention to the quality of it. Rather, I intend to use Twilight as a way of experimenting. In terms of structure, it is intended to be very different from my “main” story. I expect chapters to be short, sometimes out of chronological order, sometimes merely brief vignettes.

I have had the basic idea of Twilight knocking around in my head for some years now, and have never quite been able to determine the best way to go about telling the story. I am not entirely convinced that this is the best way, but it is a way, and I think I can make it work.

In short, Twilight is a way to blow off some steam and relieve a little pressure. It is not meant to be an inferior work, just more of a risk-taking one, personally. I hope whoever reads it enjoys it, and can understand if the updates may be somewhat irregular.

As a final note, I will possibly at some point be putting up a glossary. I don’t intend to use a lot of bizarre made-up words, but there may be a few things—bits of world information, history, culture, etc.—that I feel like writing about at greater length than the story itself will reasonably allow or require. I’ll be doing it as much for my own amusement as yours, but then, this whole thing is just about entirely concerned with self-indulgence, so that would be par for the course.
