The Captor's Redemption

Chapter Forty-Three

Eden knew it would be any day now. She wasn’t sure of the exact date of conception of the twins that were now whole inside her, but she knew that the time of their emergence would be approaching within the week. It had, after all, been eight months.

After the calamity at the cathedral in Herald, which went nearly unnoticed to anyone outside that one safe city, people had spread out into the wilderness to seek the protection of clansmen. Still, many of them died, and were dying still. Eden and Trevor had then taken to the small, neighboring city of Ralik, and had spent the last eight months here in this deserted place, trying to rid it of its infesting monsters. Eden didn’t mind the near solitude in the crumbling city. She found it quite lovely.

In the later months of her stomach’s growth, she’d not been able to hunt the beasts, but Trevor took to the empty streets alone, and both of their works together had reduced the monsters by half, she was sure. Maybe more. Now, on this day, she was alone in the city, but that didn’t bother her. Trevor would be returning soon.

She smiled as she thought about him, staring out the window of someone’s former apartment, watching the daylight fade to black.

Trevor meant everything to her, and was well worth every breath she breathed. She loved the man he was now even more then the man he used to be. He’d changed somehow, in disposition perhaps, yet in many ways he was still the same. The twins together had become a complete man, though at times they still seemed separate inside there. She loved both of those parts of him.

Eden touched her swollen belly when she felt a tumbling sensation.

Fighting again, she thought with amusement, imagining her two boys growing older and testing their powers on each other through battle. The image pleased her.

She’d picked names for them; the first was to be called Verra, after the man who’d raised her as her father, and the second would be named Enoch, in honor of the man who had brought up Vincent and Trevor – and the man who was apparently the blood father that she’d never known. Eden knew her children would grow up well, because now they had two parents who were Captors, and who understood what that meant enough to teach.

The woman – soon to be called a mother – thought that this life was the one she was destined to live, and it was the happiest life she could have ever dreamed for. She was going to destroy monsters and demons, freeing the world for future days of restoration, and she knew there was no better way to spend her time.

A kick to her stomach lining made her laugh aloud fondly.

“Easy there, beloved,” she said softly.

She closed her eyes and let a warm wind blow into her face. Trevor would be back soon, and she knew that when he returned, he’d be able to hold his newly born children and be pleased with them, but it wasn’t only that or her desire to see him that excited her. When he once again reappeared in the city, he would be bringing a gift.

And after she gave birth, a Captor’s suit of black scale would be hers.

(A/N): I hope everyone enjoyed reading this as much as I did (again). Several times I got caught up in it as I was posting. But anyway: this story was originally meant to stand alone, but there is a further story to be told beyond where this one ends. Whether I go on to write it is an entirely different matter. heh

Thank you to everyone reading. Any comments are appreciated.
