FIVE

I.
Nothing will change a winter’s mind,
as icy and still as mine is now.

II.
The cruel manipulator sits and sleeps
in winter’s frozen soul of snow.

III.
Change comes slow as green grass turns to
brown mud to white and back to brown earth.

IV.
Goodbye, oh season of the mists.
The pipe is all the haze I will now know.

V.
Across the lake blooms a thousand candles:
a travesty of city.
