Imagination

I sail a ship,

I fight a war,

Invade a castle

Through my back door.

Today I’m an explorer,

Trekking through the jungle,

In the rhododendron bush.

A tabby cat,

A tiger fierce,

A pile of stones,

A mountain high.

But now I’m a

Noble knight,

Dressed in armour,

Ready to fight.

A saucepan on my head,

A helmet strong,

The old grey raincoat,

My armour bright.

A bamboo stick,

My longsword fine,

The family dog,

My noble steed.

Don’t fear,

Dear sister’s teddy bear,

I’ll save you,

From her toy butterfly.

I fight the foe,

Long and hard,

Until I hear a cry,

“where’s my saucepan?”

My helmet taken

By my mother,

I become,

A great big bear!

I roar, I glare,

I claw the air,

I chase my sister

Round the garden.

But then we change,

From bear and prey,

To witch and wizard,

Casting spells.

And then it’s time for tea,

“Here you go brave knight,”

Says mother, “or are you

someone else today?”
