Joy

By Laura Schiller

The sound of glitter

is that soft chime at the beginning of a song

raining down from a concert hall

that catches the light

in a thousand silver sparkles

and has us all raising our hands

and singing.

The taste of sunlight

dissolves on my tongue, sweet and sour

A golden slice of warmth

straight from the oven

to bask in on lazy summer afternoons.

And my friend’s voice glows brightly

soft and smooth as a kitten’s fur

a sweet voice, a white chocolate voice.

We smile at each other

and I can hear the glitter

taste the sunlight

feel the joy.
