Chapter Six
Kenneth's POV
I. AM. PISSED. OFF. I have to kiss MORGAN? Or something close to it, anyway, but still, SERIOUSLY?! Argh. I don't want to kiss ANYBODY. Not at the moment, anyhow. It would help if I actually liked any of the people in the room. Well, I think that may be a little strong.
A simple fact: I do not like Morgan. She is the bossiest woman I have ever met, and that's up against some pretty stiff competition, especially from some of the doctors. Alan is much too forthcoming, and can't seem to desist from being more than a foot away from Saro, and mindlessly blathering in her ear. What I mean is, a minute ago he was pretending to choke and saying "I see the light". Real mature.
Yeah right.
Elizabeth is okay I suppose, a little cold when you first meet her, but Saro's like that too. Except Saro has a huge amount of sarcasm and is exponentially cynical. Elizabeth is quieter, like me. But I wouldn't want to kiss anyone.
I looked at Alan, and was surprised to see that his cheeks were pink. Strange. I turned my gaze to look at Saro, to find her face unreadable. Damn. Elizabeth's eyes were as big as saucers, and I couldn't help smiling slightly. Morgan was fuming. The smile on my face evaporated. Uh-oh.
"Okay, now that we're all done with the Heimlich, over to mouth-to-mouth! You will be switching partners! Sound okay?" she didn't wait for a reply. "Saroline will be practicing with Elizabeth, I will be practicing with Morgan, and Kenneth, you will be practicing with Alan," said Gladyz, walking over to Morgan. I blanched. Oh god. Even worse (maybe). ALAN. Disgusting. Saro shrugged and walked over to Eliza. Morgan sighed gratefully as I walked over to Alan. He grimaced at me. Well, it looks like he doesn't like the idea any more than I. Dr. Ledve smirked and leaned against the wall, watching me and Alan. I raised an eyebrow.
"Now, first, one of you will be the one who's fainted."
Alan eyed me, then laid down on the floor, glaring at me. What did he think I was going to do? Kill him? Actually, it's quite tempting... I shook my head, then glanced around me. Saro was laying on the floor, so was Morgan. And Dr. Ledve was still watching me. Creepy.
Driggle showed us how to do mouth to mouth. Elizabeth and Saro seemed happy enough. Lucky. They're friends. Actually, it's mostly Saro who's lucky. She seems to be friends with everyone. Natural charm, maybe.
I got through with the lesson fast, and walked back to my room. On my way, I saw Elizabeth and Dr. Ledve making out in a corner. I stopped, stunned. I had only ever seen it in movies. It was weird to see it in real life. And what the hell was Andrea DOING, kissing a doctor she JUST MET? Silly thing. They didn't notice me, so I rushed into my door, slamming it shut. It's annoying when people do stupid things for the heck of it. I did get some satisfaction when I heard footsteps outside my door, and Alan swearing loudly. I wondered vaguely where he learned that type of language, then went over to my bookshelf.
I decided on Mansfield Park. I like Jane Austen's work quite a bit, but they tend to be a bit predictable. I pushed the PLAY button on my CD player, and The Bogmen started to blare out.

Elizabeth's POV
After the class was done, I headed back to my room, pulling on one of my curls. I heard shoes on the floor behind me. I figured it had to be one of my fellow dolls, so I didn't turn around. Then arms wrapped around my waist and spun me around; to my surprise, I saw Dr. Ledve. He had a strange look on his face. I blinked, completely in shock. He then pushed me up against the wall, and starting kissing all over my face, on my neck... I kinda just stood there. I have to admit, he has very soft lips... wait! I shouldn't be doing this! He's a doctor!
But he has soft lips!
Doctor!
Lips!
DOCTOR!
LIPS!!
Yeah, that's the battle that raged on in my head. I heard Kenneth's door slam. Wow. I didn't even hear him coming up the hall. I then heard Alan swearing, very, VERY loudly. Dr. Ledve, er, Rian, looked around. He straightened his hair and dashed off, winking at me before he rounded a hall corner. I looked around at Alan, who was staring at me.
"What the effing HELL are you doing?! You realize that you could have been caught!"
I just stood there numbly. Rian Ledve just kissed me. Alot. I walked back to my room, ignoring Alan's staring. Once I got in, I locked the door after me, thinking hard. WHY did he do that? And WHY did I LET him do it?! He shouldn't be kissing me. Right? But... if Rian thinks it's alright, why shouldn't it be? ARGH. Why did things have to be so confusing?
I walked over to my CD player and opened the top. I put in The Choir Girl Hotel by Tori Amos, and flopped onto a comfy chair and grabbed my laptop. Yes, we have laptops. They're pretty cool. I clicked around, playing solitare, that sort of thing. But I got bored, so I typed in random words, just to feel the keys under my fingers. Those random words happened to be Like Real. An offical looking screen popped onto the page. It almost looked like a newsletter. The heading read:
HORMONE CHART
Reported by Dr. Rian Ledve.
Alan: 83.4
Appears to have abnormally high hormone ratings, shows interest in Saroline as mate. Appears to get along with Andrea, teasing Saro seems to be favorite occupation.
Elizabeth: 99. 8
Hormone rating dangerously high, though shows no mate preference. Saroline, Kenneth and Alan seem to be favored as friends Check earlier hormone tests for more information on subject.
Saroline: 72. 5
Hormone level slightly above normal, shows interest in Alan as mate, appears to favor Elizabeth and Morgan as friends, doesn't talk to Kenneth other than pleasantries, and only if forced.
Kenneth: 23. 2
Dangerously low hormone percentige, does not show any mate interest whatsoever. No one favored as friends, check earlier tests for more on the subject.
Morgan: 38.5
Abnormally low hormone rating, though seems fine for the present. Favors no one for mate. Favors Saroline as friend. Does not seem to like Alan at all.
WHAT THE HELL?! Why did HORMONE tests come up?! I read them carefully. I giggled slightly at the part that went "Teasing Saro seems to be favorite occupation". My jaw dropped when I saw my readout. 99.8?? THAT CANNOT BE GOOD. Dangerously high? Uh-oh. And why is Kenneth's "Dangerously low"?
Hmmm...

Each profile had a picture of the person in question beside it. I frowned. Those were our exact ages. This must be updated every day. And how did I manage to make it into this page? Shouldn't it be confidential doctor stuff? Strange.
A knock on the door made me jump.
"Who is it?" I called, almost hoping it WASN'T Rian Ledve.
"It's Saro."
"Oh, okay, um, come in."
The door knob rattled. "It's locked," said Saro's voice from behind the door. She sounded amused.
I got up from my chair, stretched quickly, then unlocked and opened my door. Saro stood there with her hands in her pockets, looking bemused. I let her in.
She peeked at my computer screen. "Whatcha got there?"
I blushed. "I think I tapped into some security computer system. By accident," I added when she laughed.
"Nice. Er, so how'd you do it?" she asked, pulling up another chair and reading the screen. Her eyebrows shot up. "I didn't know that Kenneth was supposed to be twenty! And I'm only eighteen? Sheesh, I'm stuck with Alan. Great."
I clicked my tongue. Her eyes peeked at me. I tapped my fingers. She smiled at me sheepishly. "Go on. I promise I won't interuppt anymore."
I watched her for a moment, then started telling her of my bordem, and typing in some password or something. She pursed her lips and clicked on a link labeled 'Shots'.
The page it came to was perfectly white, with small black lettering.

"Is it just me, or does ECI sound menacing?" asked Saro, grimacing at the computer screen. I nodded and twitched my nose.
Something weird is going on.
