Tension sparking in the air

Tight determined atmosphere

Wait for the whistle, muscles bunched

Arms stretched forward, shoulders hunched

The whistle goes, you push of strong

Flying through the air, you’re gone

Streamlined body, smooth and slim

Towards the water, at your whim

You enter in, the pool so clear

You eyes are set, your goal is near

Your arms begin their rhythmic beat

In, out, in time with your feet

The coolness on your skin feels right

From endless practice, day and night

You know the water, feel it twirl

Feel the eddies around you swirl

You touch the wall and spin around

Shoot back again, feet off the ground

One more lap to reach the end

Before you jump out to hug your friends

One more stroke, you touch, you spin

You’re the only one at the end, you win!

Adrenalin run down, now the race is done

But what can you say, you sure had fun
