Anti-Heroine

Whore-O-Ween

Life could not have been better. A teenager always has an angst filled life but currently, it had conflicts down to the minimum in Jessieworld. School was going well, Michael was the best boyfriend she could have asked for, Adrianne has stopped going for the jugular the minute Michael and Jessie had been going out for a week. And now, the only problems were the awkward hours are the bookstore with Ethan, and Lizzie and Molly’s constant idea that Michael was just not quite right.

Jessie didn’t mind though, the more time they spent around Michael, the less often those comments were made, and junior year was shaping up well. To top things off, Jessie’s favorite holiday, Halloween was only tomorrow, Saturday, and everyone from the lunch table were going as a group to a Halloween party hosted by one of the volleyball girl’s house, Nicky Jennings.

Halloween was the holiday in which Jessie could pretend to be someone else. She could portray her favorite heroines, take on a new persona, and for once, be someone else. Although this year, she was going shopping with Lizzie, Molly, Paige and, Emma, and she was pretty sure she would not be going as Elizabeth Bennett or Charlotte Simmons to this party.

All she could do was wait for Wednesday, and try to ignore the glares that the football players now gave her because she had turned down their top two guys. She had off of work that night, and she was guessing the costumes would be picked over because Halloween was only one day away.

Weirdly enough, Ethan had been acting strangely these past three weeks. He had not been acting like the shy gentleman she was used to. Instead acting like the pigs she usually associated as football jocks. He had made a complete one eighty, he burped, he was rude to teachers, made innuendos to all the girls, and acted like a fool. Jessie couldn’t imagine what she had seen in him in the first place.

She left the school at 2:30 and drove her car home with Lizzie following behind. She didn’t feel like driving all the way to the store by herself.

“This is going to be fun,” Lizzie said, she adored Halloween too.

Jessie rolled her eyes, “Oh yea so much fun.”

“Do I sense a personality emerging?” her best friend teased gently.

Jessie chose the immature response and groaned before facing the window silently. She did not want to have to deal with that today.

Lizzie parked the car and waited for Jessie to notice they had finally arrived at the store and Molly, Emma, and Paige were waiting for them inside. Jessie as usual, jumped out of her dreamland, which was today showing a lovely scene between Richard and Amy in the original Pink Carnation, and exited the car.

The friends linked arms and walked inside to the racks of costumes and their other friends, who were already browsing.

“I can’t find anything cute,” Molly groaned.

“Me either,” Paige said, for once in a friendly mood, she didn’t seem to be taking mental notes of every conversation.

“Why don’t we go as a group?” Emma said.

“By George that may be the smartest thing you have said all your life!” Lizzie exclaimed.

“But what are we going to do as a group, there isn’t anything for ten people,” Jessie said dejectedly, she had hoped to get away from the creativity aspect of costumes by fobbing that duty off on someone else.

“How about Disney princesses?” Lizzie said.

“I don’t really like Disney.” Jessie responded, dismissing the idea.

“Blasphemy!” Molly shouted, making every head in the store turn towards them.

“Look, it’s the only thing that has five female, and five male characters, we have to get our date’s outfits too.” Emma put in, a bit of an attitude lacing her words.

Twenty minutes later Emma had already claimed Sleeping Beauty and Prince Phillip for her and her stoner date, Lizzie had taken Pocahontas and John Smith for herself, and the date that she refused to say the name of. Molly was, of course, a shoe in for Ariel which left Brian as Eric, and Paige had decided on Cinderella and Prince Charming.

“Who’s your date?” Molly asked, surprised she wasn’t privy to those details.

Emma and Paige turned conspiratorially to each other, “No one,” the girl said.

“Oh you know that we’ll bother you until you spill so you might as well get it over with,” Lizzie said, anguished that she didn’t know the latest gossip.

“Oh fine,” Emma said, they really were the same person.

“Jack.” Paige said smugly.

“Jack!” the other three said incredulously.

Paige just nodded. Jessie couldn’t believe that, after what Jack had displayed in front of everyone just three weeks ago that Paige would go with a ten foot radius of him. But she had always been a social climber and probably thought going with Jack to a party would earn her points. Lizzie just did a very Lizzie-like response. She snorted.

“You’re going with the pig? Just remember to use a condom, you don’t want and nasty warts.”

Molly cracked up and nudged Jessie who’s grin was emerging and eventually also caught on to the full fledge laughter. Paige pouted her lips and tried to look like what Lizzie had said was joke, but everyone knew it was true.

“Now Jessie,” Lizzie said tactfully, trying not to start a nuclear war between Paige and Molly, “What about your costume?”

“Everything is either too prissy, or too slutty,” she said dolefully.

Lizzie raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything. She looked to Molly for help, but was met with no response; Molly’s sides were still splitting.

Five minutes later Jessie was sitting on a fake coffin reciting Hamlet to a plastic skull.

“Dork,” her best friend muttered, “What about this one?”

“That’s,” Jessie said, looking at the costume, “Just right!”

Lizzie always knew what her friend liked, she had picked the adorable Tinkerbelle costume, complete with the green puffball slippers. Not too slutty, but hopefully enough for Michael to notice the extra effort she was putting in. Lizzie and Molly’s makeover really had gotten to her and brought out her inner personality, and girl.

Molly noticed that Jessie had checked out with the Peter Pan and Tinkerbelle costumes and was happy to escape the death glares of Paige and Emma.

That night, Ethan was over at Kevin’s house, and they were going over the game plan for Saturday one last time.

“So you got it?” Kevin said.

“Yea, I know what to do,” Ethan responded.

“Good, now what does Adrianne have planned for your costumes?”

“Romans, complete with togas and laurel leaves.” Ethan groaned inwardly at the thought of a toga.

“Perfect, now, this is what you are going to wear,” Kevin said pulling a garment bag out of the closet, “Make sure you are careful with it, I have to respond it to the costume closet at school on Sunday.”

Jessie nervously got dressed an hour before Michael was picking her up on Saturday. She had pulled her hair back in the traditional bun, and had done her makeup so she looked a little ethereal. Amazing what a few teenage magazines with beauty tutorials could do for a girl. The doorbell rang and Jessie raced down stairs, her green slippers making barely any noise.

She opened the door to Michael who was looking, and smelling, wonderful after a shower. “Hey, want to come in and change into the costume I got you?”

“As long as I don’t have to be a fairy too, Tinkerbelle.” He said, leaning in for a sweet kiss that sent Jessie’s joints to jello.

“Go upstairs and take a left, your costume is in the guestroom.”

He came back, feeling a bit foolish dressed as the boy that never grew up, but Halloween was really all in good fun, and if this was what Jessie’s friends were doing, he would do whatever he could to keep her comfortable. She smiled at him and he wrapped his arm around her waist and escorted her to his car.

The girl currently masquerading as Tinkerbelle was twisting her mini dress into little balls. She was nervous, this was only her second party and she had not made a good impression at her last one. Although, that had been what brought her a Michael together, but had also been one of the most embarrassing nights of her life. She felt the pressure of Michael’s hands over hers, stalling her movements.

“It’ll be fine, I’ll make sure no one slips you anything bad,” he said. She loved and hated that he took such good care of her. Sometimes she wished she didn’t need his protection, but she enjoyed how affectionate he was.

“Alright, lets brave the gauntlet,” Jessie said awkwardly, hoping people wouldn’t all be watching them walk in and that she wouldn’t knock anyone out with her wings.

The house was jam packed with partying teenagers, strobe lights and a fog machine set up that made Jessie cough. “Hey, I’m going to go say hi to some of the guys, Lizzie is over there by the DJ.” Michael said, heading over to the kitchen.

She walked over to Lizzie and gave her a hug, looking over her Pocahontas costume that accentuated her curves. “Where’s your date?” Jessie asked.

“Hey girly,” A tipsy Kevin sloshed, holding two plastic cups in his hand and dressed in Lizzie’s John Smith Costume.

Lizzie smiled and grabbed the drink, knocking it back. She had a very high alcohol tolerance. “He’s right here!”

“Kevin?”

“Yesh sirree bob,” Kevin slurred.

Jessie rolled her eyes and turned back to her friend. “Well I guess I should join the party huh?”

“Let’s go get you a drink,” Lizzie said, a glint in her eyes that Jessie took as a response to the alcohol.

Ten minutes later Jessie had knocked back a beer and was starting to feel a little disoriented. She wanted to find Michael and just curl up somewhere and go to sleep.

“Here you go,” Lizzie said, plying her with a shot of tequila.

“Let’s go find some boys,” Jessie said, her words almost indiscernible.

“That’s my girl,” Lizzie said, winking at her date that she left in the kitchen.

Jessie didn’t even know what she had been doing in the fog of her mind, all she knew was that she liked the feeling of grinding with the guy behind, whether it was Michael or not. She heard bickering from the foyer where the front door was that adjoined the living room that was functioning as a dance floor. She kissed the guy on the cheek and wandered off a little wobbly to find the source of the noise.

“We were going as Romans!” Adrianne screeched.

Ethan rolled his eyes and grabbed a beer out of someone’s hand and drained it swiftly. “I like Mr. Darcy better,” he said simply. He did look very good in the authentic early 19th century costume complete with boots.

“Ugh, you are supposed to do as I say,” she scolded, not looking all that attractive.

Ethan shrugged and walked off in search of another drink. He would need it if he had to put up with her all night.

Jessie followed after him and smiled saying hello before grabbing a mixed drink someone held out to her. She was completely blitzed.

Lizzie followed soon after her and noticed the awkward pair together for once, both smiling stupidly at each other. They were way too easy to get drunk. “Body shots anyone?” she questioned the kitchen.

Ethan smiled, this was the perfect chance to start the plan, “Yea, I’m game.”

Lizzie grabbed the necessary ingredients and nudged Jessie.

“Ow,” the brunette said, rubbing her shoulder.

“Lay down on the table,” Lizzie whispered.

Jessie groaned and laid down wondering what they were doing. She felt her dress begin lift up to her bra, her underwear expose and a lime placed in her mouth. She smiled as Ethan as he did the shot, licked the salt, and leaned down for the lime. He came up for air and grinned.

The girl smiled back at him and leaned over and puked. Lovely.

He grimaced and helped her up off the table and avoided the puke. “Come on, let’s go dance,” she pleaded, dragging him off to the dance floor.

“Was that a body shot I just saw?” Kevin asked.

“Oh yea,” Lizzie responded.

“Perfect.”

Jessie smiled as Ethan followed, as did Lizzie and Kevin and began dancing. She didn’t care who it was with, and usually ended up with a little tongue action at the end of the song before flitting over to her next partner. She noticed Lizzie guiding her to other guys and just smiled, she liked parties.

Michael watched his date go through a disaster. She was worse than a train going off the tracks, she really couldn’t handle this scene. He walked over and tried to pull her over from the guy she was currently dancing with, one of the lesser football players who knew they were going out. “Scram.” He said, not letting him take advantage of his girl. “Jessie,” he said gently, “I think it’s time to go home.”

“No way I’m having fun,” she responded, turning and placing a fiery kiss on his lips, softly biting his lower lip.

“God, you really are learning aren’t you, but we really have to go.” Michael said.

“Aw I want to stay.”

“I could take her home when I leave,” Lizzie put in, helpfully, smiling to Kevin who seemed to be joined to her hip for the night.

Michael looked at Jessie, he knew she would regret everything she did when she woke up with a killer hangover in the morning. He regretted bringing her to the party, and letting her drink. It wasn’t her fault she had probably made out with at least eight guys since they had been here, he had left her alone and someone had probably spiked her drink. He knew she couldn’t hold any alcohol at all. He wanted to drag her home and put her to bed, but she wouldn’t come willingly, and he had a mother who enforced a rather tight curfew. “Alright, just try to keep her from doing anything too, unJessie like.”

“Will do,” Lizzie said grabbing Jessie by her shoulders and turning her back into the throng of dancers.

Michael looked longingly at his girlfriend, hoping she wouldn’t do anything too stupid, and left, wishing he could have convinced her to leave.

Hours later the party was beginning to wind down, but Jessie was still in full party mode. She pulled herself up, unsteadily, onto the dining room table and began to drunkenly dance around, doing a bit of a strip tease. Kevin pushed Ethan up on the table next to her and the quickly began dancing, Jessie attempting to grind her hips seductively into his.

Those still there, the hard core partiers, cheered them on and urged them to kiss. Which they did, starting a rather heavy make out session on the table.

“How can you do this to me? Ignore me all night, make out with other girls, and don’t even match me in costumes! We are so over!” Adrianne screeched, making another appearance.

Ethan pulled back from Jessie, grinned, and passed out. Jessie was pulled down with him and hit her head on the table, passing out too.

Lizzie, Molly, Kevin, and Brian exchanged high fives and shut their cell phones, they had videotaped the whole thing, and tried to gather their respective friends.

Jessie awoke to a wonderful morning and groaned, clutching her head. Déjà vu much? She felt the comfortable warmth of someone’s arm over her body and snuggled into

it. Wait, there should not be this warmth there. She rolled over and looked into the person’s face. It was Ethan.

Well, there goes having a boyfriend.
