A girl about 17 crawled out from under the rubble of what was once her home. She had dazzling green eyes, almost jade colored; she also had raven black hair, which went to her shoulders. She looked upon what was once the place that no one would attack, especially the Elves.

A few months ago, Elves, a species that no one thought actually existed since they never showed themselves until now, had started claiming back the Earth, saying that they had been hiding for too long. Everyone had thought that they were kidding when they first heard this, but then Elves started killing and destroying cities, sparking the flame to the next World War. No one knew which sides that half-elves were on.

“CODY! MOM! JACOB!” she shouted, trying to find out if her family, which was her mother, step-dad and little brother, made it out ok. “Please give me a sign that they are alright, Lord,” she muttered. She heard something from behind and turned around. She gasped.

There was a white-cloaked person with a bow and arrow aiming at the ground. There was an Elf who was sneaking up on her. The person aimed the bow at Madeline. She shielded herself with her arms, knowing it was useless. She heard the person fire the arrow; she had closed her eyes, not wanting to see where the person was aiming.

She then heard a thud coming from behind. Madeline opened her eyes and turned around, gaping at what she saw. There was another Elf, who wielded a sword, and that Elf was right behind her, ready to kill.

“Come on!” the person in the white cloak said. He then ran off, leaving Madeline behind. Madeline followed him, not sure if that’s what he wanted her to do. The cloaked person made some sharp turns and Madeline saw that he was waiting for her, when she had gotten lost on some of the turns. He then ran into a building that was deserted recently, for there was hardly any dust on anything inside. He went upstairs, as Madeline followed him.

He was wearing a hood, concealing his face, and went up to the 4th floor of the building. He stopped in front of a closed door and raised his hand to stop the girl. He went inside and closed the door behind him.

Curious, she went to the door and tried to hear what was going on. She heard low and muffled voices. They were speaking in some strange language, and one seemed very angry about something. “What’s going on?” she thought, trying to understand why this person saved her. The door suddenly opened and Madeline stepped back, surprised.

One of the voices from behind the door was male muttered something, like he was right about something. The man that had saved her beckoned her inside the room. She went inside, not sure if she was doing the right thing. The man then told his companion something in that language and pointed to a window. The companion started to protest until the man told him something that got him to sulk his way to the window.

“I’m sorry, but he’s so hard to get through sometimes, but he’s a good person. He’s just…” the man explained.

“Stubborn?” she guessed.

“No it’s just that…he thinks that we’re doing the exact opposite of what the others are doing,” he said.

“’The exact oppos-‘, what?” she asked. Her eyes then widen and she started to back away from the person that had saved her. “Y-y-you’re one of them…b-both of you!” Madeline stuttered. She backed straight into the door that the man had closed when she had entered the room. “You’re an Elf!”

(Sweet, what’ll happen next? You’ll just have to read to find out)
